Doesn't seem to be a law in Arizona... I go to Fantastic Sams... I get my hair shampooed....conditioned... and cut....leave with wet hair....

@granddi Shampoo, rinse, cut, dry and style all the same price. I believe if the stylist does extensive use of a curling iron or other tool, there may be a fee but ask the stylist.

When I go in for a blow out, the charge includes wash/condition/blow dry. I have thick curly hair, if I want it flat ironed that is an extra charge.

@Iwantcoffee I really don't know. I know it was a question that was listed on my Cosmologology state board exam. It is a requirement for sure, but I don't know the reasoning.

I can't guarantee it's required in Arizona, but I do know that many salons did not follow the correct sanitation or other laws required
Salons do get inspected, but not often unless there is a complaint. In the 35 years, I have owned a salon, I was only inspected once since the initial inspection when I first opened.
There were no infractions, but the inspector counted every towel in the cupboards and hampers to make sure the salon had the minimum requirement for a five chair salon.
That inspection had to be at least 25 years ago...no one has been back to inspect since.
I would imagine if no one inspects, anything goes.
I have seen poor sanitation in many salons....especially in the mani/pedi areas.

I am so glad I went to beauty school in 1969 and have done my own hair since then. I would be in sticker stock if I had to spend that much.

My hairstyle is an easy cut - shoulder length bob with a few long layers. I get it cut dry with nothing else done to it. $20.00 plus 20% tip = $24.00. I color my own grey so I don't have any coloring expense either.

The salon I go to everything is separate. Cut is separate. If you add a blow dry it is an additional amount, so is a curling iron. It is difficult to find a private salon (not a chain) that doesn't usually cost at least $100.00 with tip for everything. I think it is dependent upon where you live.

I've been incredibly lucky since I retired 13 years ago. I stopped coloring my hair shorty after retirement and now have a healthy head of hair that is half way down my back. My niece is a talented stylist but she's eight hours away. She cuts my hair about 3-4 times annually and charges a family rate of $20 but I always tip her $50 (she is a genius). If I feel the need to trim read ends I part my hair down the middle while it's wet, take all hair on one side and twist it all the way down to ends, cut off 1/2 " and do the other side. It's always perfect! I used to spend $130 every 6 weeks, so now I have plenty on my hair.

My haircut includes, shampoo, conditioning, cut, blowdry and styling. My hair is curly so I don't require much blowdry, just to soften the gel.
