I used to love the selection of foundation and they did my oldest's first makeup. Still remember the blush they used on her.

After EL pulled them out of the department stores, it was pretty much over.

Prescriptives was developed in 1977 and launched in 1979, headed by Ronald Lauder, with Sylvie Chantecaille as the director who developed the products. The brand was positioned as a modern, natural skin care line for smart, young career women that was poised to compete with then-dominant Erno Laszlo.

I still remember the first time I had a make-over with Prescriptives. Finally, a company that addressed very fair skin without ending up with a line at the jawline. The lipsticks were also wonderful when I discovered the color "Mauve" which they discontinued in 2010. I have yet to ever find a good substitute for it even though I tried going counter to counter to match it.

I used to love watching Jillian Veran when she was on a show. She really made the brand work here on the Q back then. Sorry the company is going, too.

@SilleeMee She sure did, and before her was an artist named Darac who was really good as well.......

@CANDLEQUEEN

I don't remember a Darac. Was that person a woman?

@SilleeMee, Darac went on to form his own cosmetic company. I had him give me a lot of hints about how to choose blush when he was in Bloomingdales in Manhattan as a freelance makeup artist.

I loved Prescriptives and used many of their products over the years, but the best was that they had tailored palettes for specific colorings, with shades of lipstick, foundation, etc. for fair cool toned skin that were gorgeous.  Finally I had that porcelain complexion, and perfect eyeshadow and lip/blush colors.  Loved their serums, concealers, mascara, etc.  Always was a treat stopping by in the dept. store to see new offerings, so pretty.

After they were removed from department stores I did order items online but they were limited in availability.  I still use several things and love the Magic powder, have a fresh container now I use every day as my finishing powder, so pretty.

Very sad to hear they are going out of business.

Yes, @author regarding the Porcelain complexion! I remember the first time I tried Camelia foundation and I have yet to ever find anything comparable to it since. I wore it for my daughter's wedding......

@Trinity11

Camelia was mine as well!  Beautiful, wore it for years....!  I had the color match at their counter and never looked back, beautiful color and consistency in their foundations.  Of course I was younger then!

I remember when they first came on the scene and gave me the wrong advice.  They told me I was warm when in fact, I am cool.  I bought some of the cosmetics but stopped.
