Re: Please help me choose a concealer

@PilatesLover I have under eye hollows too plus darkness due to allergies. I use a tiny brush to apply a lighter concealer into the hollow, and I use a peachy corrector sparingly on the rest of the under eye. Don’t go super crazy blending as you want the light color to stay in the hollow to bring it forward. I saw this technique on Vincent Ford’s insta and it’s been super helpful and doesn’t need tons of product. The brush I use for the hollows is zoeva’s pencil liner, it’s really tiny and precise, picked it up at TJ maxx. My corrector and concealer are both Nars creamy radiant.

Full disclosure: I'm not a makeup gal.  Skin care, sun block, eyebrows out of necessity, eyeliner and mascara.  Maybe a light powder and blush.  I'm not one to spackle, prime, conceal, contour and Beauty Blender - there's just no time and I don't enjoy doing it.

BUT I saw myself via a recorded town council public hearing, sitting in the public seating area, and was appalled by my undereye circles.  I want to add concealer to my eye makeup now.  Some more info:

  • They're not bags or skin discoloration, it's shadows caused by my face structure, deep set eyes and gravity
  • I'm 65 and have dry skin that has gotten very thin there
  • Is there something creamy but that won't get caught in creases as the day wears on?
  • I have very sensitive, dry eyes.

Thank you beauty experts for reading my post.  ♥

@PilatesLover  (thanks @Effie54 ). I'm trying out a new concealer by DRMTLGY....sale happening now...Luminous Eye Corrector SPF 41. It's a fluid consistency and the coverage is good, but not heavy. I'm using FAIR and find I don't need concealer over it. It takes care of any darkness and hydrates.

@Shanus That sounds like a good one. Please let me know how you like it. I'm the same coloring as you.

@Effie54   I've been wearing it exclusively for 2 wks. and love it. I ordered a backup while the sale is on now.

Re: Please help me choose a concealer

@YanksFan - As you mentioned (as well as others in previous threads), the pros advise setting concealer with powder which I am confused by. ANY time I put powder under my eyes over foundation or concealer, it seems to CAUSE settling into the fine lines always looking much worse. This is after I moisturizer the area well. I’m not sure if it’s the way I apply, the brand I’m using or if I use too much. Don’t any of you have this problem?

Re: Please help me choose a concealer

My current favorite, for me is NARS "Creme Brulee'"

And I've tried a lot of them, as I've always had very dark circles since childhood.

I'm 66, with medium toned, normal to dry skin. This formula is good, stays on, doesn't go into creases. At first I thought it might be drying, but since then, I haven't felt it looked that way anymore. Maybe my first tube was old the others have been fine. $32 at Sephora and other places..not cheap. Thin tube, lasts for me about 3 mos.

Also have tried Lancome Teint Idole. A very nice creamy formula. My only problem with that is the woman at Sephora picked a "too dark" color for me. I should have gone back and switched it but never did.  Doesn't look good under my eyes, so I only use it in summer for other dark areas, when I'm more tan. Big tube, will last a long time...I forget the price.

I've been curious about Tarte Shape Tape, and want to try that sometime myself. A lot of influencers say they like that. I hear a lot of people who say it's their Holy Grail concealer.

But as long as you get the right color match...drugstore brands can work well too. I've used Loreal from CVS before....I forget which one, they have had more than one.

I've not tried the Maybelline.

For me the hardest part is figuring out the right color, especially in drugstores where you can't try on a sample.

If you have fine lines any concealer is going to settle in them. It just is. Hydrating and moisturizing under your eyes before concealer will help. The concealer that works best on dry under eyes is Natasha denona hy-glam brightening and hydrating medium to full coverage concealer. Another one that cost a bit less is Kaja don't settle. Whichever concealer you choose, after it dries, use your finger or a beauty blender to tap the fine lines or swipe up to remove the excess.  This is especially important if you set your under eyes with powder.  Remove the excess first.

I make it a point to keep my powder out of the fine lines under my eyes. Even though I go back after the concealer is dried and remove any excess, I still don't want powder on my dry fine lines. I use a  small angled concealer brush to apply powder just under my lower lashes, keeping it off of the fine lines below that area.

Re: Please help me choose a concealer

Sephora doesn't have many Natasha Denona products right now. I thought about getting the concealer when they have the sale, but it's no longer in stock. I wonder if Sephora is discontinuing Natasha Denona or if they will bring more back later.

I just went to the Sephora site and all 50 colors of the concealer are there. I clicked on 7 colors in all shade ranges and added them to my basket. They were all available.
