As for dermatology, I have a dermatologist whom I trust implicitly when it comes to diseases or disorders of the skin. She is very competent and experienced. But she is not into discussing cosmetic ingredients. She does not sell skin care or cosmetics either.

I'm sure that if I were to ask her for a recommendation for a moisturizer, she would probably tell me basically what to look for but nothing beyond that, unless of course maybe it was related to a problem. In fact, I seem to remember that she might have once mentioned that she uses an Olay moisturizer. I think it was just a conversation we were having and not necessarily a recommendation.

suzy, I hear that a lot from others on this board. I guess I'm really lucky that my derm is not only a specialist in skin disorders/diseases, but is also well versed in skincare, and very happy to discuss specifics with her patients who ask questions. She has taught me so much, and by doing so, changed my skin entirely!  She's shared medical journal reports on double blind clinical studies of various ingredients and products. She's explained how "in vitro" (test tube) studies and consumer marketing studies ("X out of Y say that ...") are far different from science-based double blind clinical stiudies done on real humans, with real skin, over a period of years.  I've learned so much from her. And, she sells no products in her practice; she believes that it's bordering on unethical for doctors to do that. I really appreciate that, too!

I agree, mine too! And mine does not sell products either.  I see her at the University teaching hospital. I actually have a couple derms and both have taught me alot about ingredients and they know I am into scientific studies and they always tell me about new studies that have come out and share the studies with me.

Okay. That's great.

I'm totally satisfied with the care I receive from my dermatologist regarding any medical skin issues I've had to deal with.

And contrary to what some of my postings may lead some to infer, I'm really not that into the nitty-gritty so deeply. I think that's why Beautypedia appeals to me -- it condenses the research into easily digestible information.

Re: Paula's reviews on Isomers skincare

Interesting that so many have repeated the assertion that many ingredients feel fine but actually do great damage under the surface that won't appear until years later.  I actually asked my derm about this and she agreed that there are a few that do that but that most "deep below the surface" damage is done through lifestyle (what you eat, how much you sleep, etc) and the sun.  I asked about lavendar essential oil, something that PB always rates products low for, and she stated what I had known already, that many derms have used it for decades to help heal burned skin.  So the "hidden" damage may be something that can happen but apparently isn't quite the danger for most people that some seem to think.  I am in my mid-50s and have used a number of ingredients that PB says will cause hidden damage and I have no wrinkles, no pigmentation issues and only very minor beginnings of sagging.  I'm always told my skin looks younger than my age, including by my derm.  For my own skin, my choices rather than PB's have really worked.

Exactly!  That's like going to the Lancome counter to be told how awful Sisley products are.  ROFL!   Bashing competitors doesn't work with me, and for that reason, I've never bought any of Paula's products.  Never will either.  Smiley Tongue

This. For this reason alone I will not even consider trying them or looking into such possibility. Bashing competitors does not work for me either.

Since Paula is doing reviews on her own products (?), as well as other brands, does anyone know if she had reviewed this product of hers?  If so, how was it rated?

I've never understood women who listen to celebrities hawking products, or someone who sells their own line and also gives opinions on other's  products.  Just can't relate to that kind of mentality.

Not sure of your point but I'm surprised you haven't noticed how many on the board use that product and how frequently it's recommended.  I see many on other skin care forums and bloggers who swear by it as well.  It is excellent at keeping pores nice and clean.

Great post! As I have sensitive skin and I prefer mild skincare for the same.
