Since you're our resident "Nose", wondered if you'd sampled any of Dita Von Teese's fragrances. Here are the descriptions off Beautylish:
Black
The initial fresh peony, sparkling bergamot and spicy Bourbon pepper give way to a beguiling heart note of Bulgarian rose, Tahitian Tiaré flower and fresh jasmine. Patchouli and musk, together with smoky sandalwood and Gaiac wood give the base note a mystical and enigmatic mood.
Rouge (Dark and Sinful
)
Top note: reveals a refreshing combination, right from the start, with reviving and delicious bergamot followed by suprising pink pepper and mysterious lapsong souchong tea. Heart note: hightlights the beautiful quality of refined sensual magnolia flower, enhanced with daring ambergris and sensual gaiacwood. Base note: the dry down is composed of a unique succession of creamy sandalwood mingled with smoky patchouli and sweet, powerful tonka bean that embodies the whole creation.
(I think I really liked some scent that had that Tonka bean -- Fendi Theorema? Bare Escentuals?)
She has another called Erotique, but I'm at worked and when I click on it, the page is blocked! Must be good!
Anyway, these scents -- or the copy -- sound intriguing, but you've got a better feel for that than I do. Do these sound appealing to you at all?
Thanks!
PS. The Parisian Nose was Killian Hennessey -- or associated/affiliated with him in some way. I think he would have been pretty ancient to be the hands on person.

Let me do googling; I'll get back to you a bit later.
I love those blurbs(ads). They have to come up with some eye-catching description, don't they?

Yeah, even if a fragrance is classified as "sweet" or "floral" (neither of which I'm drawn to), by the time they get through describing it, I want it!

And I know NOTHING about perfumery. However, I did just discover Jo Malone and I have fallen madly in love.

Not eavesdropping at all! I know there are a LOT of Jo Malone fans -- haven't whiffed it myself. So many scents, so little time!! Happy you're enjoying it!

Holy cow -- they sell it on HSN! I'm going over to read the reviews now (although I know it will be the I loved it! I hated it! par for the course reviews)

Here's the description from HSN for Erotique:
She sure loves her gaiac wood -- whatever that is!

I've learned from bitter (literally) experience that group assignments and lists of notes help only a little bit. The final result usually can't be so easily pigeon-holed.
I tend to enjoy "fruity florals" that border on a whiff of the tropical, or tropical as I imagine it to be. I don't want to smell like a pina colada or anything, but to me, the fruity florals that I like are actually "clean" or "fresh"to my nose.
But I notice that many "connoisseurs" are much more into assertive or, as one person put it, "combative" fragrances -- like the power scents from earlier days. I think the pendulum keeps swinging. I'm sure that the prevalence of lighter scents was a reaction to those vintage perfumes.
Oh, I saw the most obnoxious perfume review on sephora.com for Cartier's new scent. It's one of these assertive scents, apparently. One woman chastised those who don't like it by saying that it's not a scent your babysitter would wear or really any of your paid help. Hahaha.... yes, she said these other reviewers just don't have any class. Sounds like a delightful woman, eh? I feel for her staff of paid help.
