PINKISH RASH WAS NOT SUNBURN!!!!

Thursday I noticed my complexion had a pinkish hue and was a little itchy. Derm fit me in for a appt. and shocked to get the diagnosis of facial seborrheic dermatitis. I have hydcrotizone cream for 2 wks. and then 2 wks. of a sulfur based cream....Hopefully that will get it under control.

It's a PIA, but it does give me a bit of color. LOL

Anyone else dealing with this?

How did you get it @Shanus ?  Allergic to something?

Have dealt with issue for many years-- not only on my face but on other parts of my upper body.  I tend to be sensitive to hot water, many additives to soaps, etc.  It is a pain, but it is not contagious.

Re: PINKISH RASH WAS NOT SUNBURN!!!!

@San Antonio Gal   Not an allergy. I googled it when I got home and it's a chronic condition (although manageable, but with flareups) that's a disruption of the yeast always present on our skin. Although my face is quite dry and still don't understand why I got it, it tends to happen to oily skin types...sometimes appears as acne . The yeast can get into sides of nostrils and brows where oils may collect.

I personally think I "overdried" my face with acids, a too strong cleanser, etc. and disrupted my skin's barrier leaving it susceptical to this unbalance of yeast that's always there.

@KailaS   Luckily I'm only dealing with my face. Sorry yours involves other areas. Some have dandruff with this, too.

@Shanus I have avoided dandruff, but more recently I have had an itchy scalp, possibly from new products my hair stylist uses.  Who knows what causes the imbalance?  (I tend to come home after an appointment and wash/ rinse my hair and scalp immediately. My stylist refuses to stop using products in which she believes.)

@KailaS   I always take my own S&C and styling products to my stylist. I find even if I don't "hate" what they use, they overdue it and my hair seemed dirty and sticky....Yes, an unnessary wash.

Re: PINKISH RASH WAS NOT SUNBURN!!!!

I've had flares with this same issue.  Mine affected me everywhere BUT my face.  One time, the flare lasted a year and I was miserable with the itchy rash and scaling.  After many trips to the derm, she told me that seborric dermatitis comes when it comes and goes when it goes.  She even gave me a printed pamplet that said the same thing.

Sure enough, one day it went.

I've had it since childhood. I tend to have flaking and itching of scalp, eyebrows and ears. I use dandruff shampoos and either hydrocortisone cream or a clear liquid product called Scalpicin.

Re: PINKISH RASH WAS NOT SUNBURN!!!!

My gynecologist diagnosed mine years and years ago.  Problem is the location on my face is my eyebrows.  Well, my eybrows slowly went away, if I have six hairs on each side I'd be surprised.  Eyebrow pencil is obviously a must.  I'm always on a quest for the perfect one.  Most are too hard and turn the skin red because of the SD.  I'm asking a separate question to see if anyone can recommend a softer one.  Shade I use is light brown or taupe.
