I have been getting goats milk soap from Goat Milk Stuff (a family operation) and I tried their Purity bar on her one night. Most of the nasty bumps on her back were gone the next morning. I use the purity on my face and my skin looks and feels great. They make super nice soaps and they deliver fast.
Thanks! I've looked them up and will pick up some soaps. They also make laundry soap!

The skin's acid mantle is normally between about 4 and 6.5, with 5.5 being the ideal. The lower the pH, the more acidic; the higher the pH, the more alkaline.
Most facial cleansers are too alkaline and can cause dryness, irritation, even acne. Better to be neutral or slightly acidic. The cleanser I use ranges from 3.8 to 4.8.
You might ask your dermatologist in which direction your skin's pH is off and what the pH is for the cleanser he recommends. That way, if you try it and don't like it or you just don't want to try it, you could find something in that range that suits you.
You can always contact a company to find out the pH of their cleanser; also, you can google and find a couple different lists that show the pH for many cleansers.

Carley's clear and smooth is a good natural brand that has a ph neutral soap. It has a nice creamy lather and very natural smell. You can email the owner and he will reply to you very quickly.

Petrolatum is the single best thing you can use on your skin. Not only does it have virtually no side effects, but it's the best at calming and moisturizing the skin. It's why derms and plastic surgeons love the stuff!
I'm surprised that he said your pH is off though as the skin tends to fix that problem all by itself within minutes of cleansing.

There is a lot of research on PH Balance, but I think if you steer clear of products with parabens, sulfates, petrolatum, and phthalates, your skin will get happy again. Try JASON, Giovanni, Burts Bees, just to name a few. Check your local health store, Trader Joe's or in the organic section of Whole Foods or Wegmans.
EVERYTHING is a chemical. By the mere fact that it exists, it's a chemical.
Please don't buy into the marketing that petrolatum is a bad ingredient. Would derms and plastic surgeons rec it if it were? In fact, you're far more likely to have problems with something labeled "natural" or "organic" than you are petrolatum/mineral oil.
Besides, does it get any more natural than coming from the earth itself?
