Re: PETER THOMAS ROTH TSV- buyer beware!!

@Porcelain, "pretty much the same" doesn't cut it. What you're not explaining (and I doubt can because you're not the manufacturer) is why the ingredient decks for products being marketed under the same names are different at all.

These manufacturers need to tell us why those decks are not completely identical if the products are, and if the products are not, why they are being sold under the same names.

Remember that this question was raised because of the appearance of a difference between the product bought from the Q and the one sourced from Sephora, reflected in user reviews.

Again, we need answers on this. We're asked to entrust these firms with a lot of our money and the health of our skin. They need to tell us why the lists differ at all.

Re: PETER THOMAS ROTH TSV- buyer beware!!

The ingredients above 1% are the same on both ingredient lists. Legally, that is all the cosmetics company is required to put on the label. They can mess around with the order in which they list the rest all they want. It doesn't affect what is in the bottle, just what is on the label. My quote from the FDA explains that.

I think the FDA should get rid of that loophole, but I'm not in charge.

This just chaps my hide! With all the cost cutting measures home shopping networks do to boost their bottom line, it really should not come as a surprise. Smiley Mad I will buy my things directly from each vendor's website from now on!

I'm not sure about the Paula's Choice product because there are so many ingredients. On the PTR product there are not that many and the fact that SO many of the QVC reviews talk about the watery consistency and none of the Sephora reviews mention that lead me to believe the two are quite different.

Re: PETER THOMAS ROTH TSV- buyer beware!!

More than a DECADE ago, I posted here and on the HSN forum that the products from Marilyn Miglan were watered down for HSN; the fragrances specifically. She stopped selling her makeup a long time ago (her kits were fantastic) and HSN focuses on her fragrances and skincare only.

I found this out from those that worked at her salon in Chicago.....I KNEW something was off when I ordered a set of products for body and bath from HSN and the consistency and scent were NOT the same as those I ordered directly from her salon. I happened to have the box from the salon body product and sure enough, the one from HSN was VERY different (and watered down). I also found out that her products for HSN are not made in the same factory (or state) as the ones for her salon.  From that point on, I compared any product I order from QVC and HSN to the original I already on (lets face it, they give some amazing deals). It's mainly cosmetics I order and so far, everything has matched (especially with Bobbi Brown and Trish McEvoy) but in other lines....not so much.

Btw, I took a lot of flak by people here that 'OH NO, companies would NEVER do that" so I find great delight in this thread simply because it validates what I've been saying for 10 years plus.  It DOES stink and it DOES happen and WE, the consumer, have to stay on top of it.

Re: PETER THOMAS ROTH TSV- buyer beware!!

I love this-and apply liberally, but I can't say there is a high water content at all: if anything, it's oily and with the still small, but liberal amount I use, it takes a little time to absorb.

I give myself 10-min facial massages using it as an oil and massage helps get it into the skin.

I love the after-effects to: no drying or flaking-and I've used retinol that did that.

It is hydrating: I love it and have been using it a long time.

Re: PETER THOMAS ROTH TSV- buyer beware!!

I'm replying to my own post to point out that in the Paula's Choice product, unlike the PTR, Retinol appears sooner by several ingredient mentions than in the product sourced on her site.

As @Porcelain has pointed out more than once, because federal laws don't impact the listing order of ingredients contributing 1% or less of the contents, this may be immaterial.

What's not immaterial, though, and what needs clarification, again, is why the decks on products with the same names are different at all.

As a final note, in all fairness, I've been very happy with the PC products I've gotten here; the TSV I bought last summer truly transformed my skin, and the Denese TSV I got recently raised it a couple more notches. No miracles, etc., but the Q products are working for me and I am very happy with them. The only PTR products I've bought have been from eBay sellers, and I'm no longer buying any skincare from vendors there, or Amazon, b/c of the lack of quality control, spoiled products, and close expiration dates.

Re: PETER THOMAS ROTH TSV- buyer beware!!

This is the first for me that any seeming or apparent differences in ingredient decks have been exposed. I know there were differences in reformulations. Look what we went through with Tova!  (the fragrance)

However, it always catches my attention when they say that something is made exclusively for the QVC customer. And I am instinctively wary of the product. I know Perricone does this a lot. But others, too.

On a different subject... Dooney Bags,

It was brought to attention by a poster that high  end consignment stores will not  take QVC Dooney bags as they are a cheap copy of the quaity bags sold elsewhere.    That says something about what QVC is selling at quality product.....
