My friend told me that her skinceutical vit c bottle label states that vit c may darken and it is normal and that it can be used. It is still effective.{#emotions_dlg.confused1}

That is really strange. What type of vitamin C is in it? If it is anything but L-ascorbic, it might be fine (although personally I wouldn't take the chance). If it is has L-ascorbic in it, that really doesn't sound right as darkening of the product would indicate oxidation.

It is L-ascorbic acid...how can they claim that it is effective even if the color darkens over time? she tells me that it is noted on the bottle label. I thought it was strange.

I don't know, that doesn't seem right at all.

haha, oddly enough when I was looking for the studies I read about using oxidized vitamin C products, this article from back in 2011 came up and it specifically regarding the skinceutical claim:

https://www.futurederm.com/2011/09/19/daily-question-when-a-vitamin-c-moisturizer-turns-brown-is-it-...

Interesting to read but remember, there are scientific studies about this that might shed more light. I just wouldn't take the risk because some studies have shown that using oxidized vitamin c products are not only pretty much ineffective but can be damaging as well.

I totally agree with you HappyDaze. We try hard to keep our skin in the best condition as we age and last thing we want to do is to damage our skin.

I've read that about Skinceuticals before. I can't believe they expect customers to believe that their serum is still good after its changed in color.

That is also what I was told by a CS rep at skincareRx when I inquired about the dark color. I don't plan to buy my Skinceuticals Vitamin C there next time.
