Ombre'd Hair

Has anyone done this themselves?

My hair is naturally dark blonde, shoulder length, with some layers on sides and lower back.

I'm planning on buying a hair-streak kit to paint the ends. My hair is very porous.... I'm afraid of it bleaching out too much. Maybe I should also buy a toner?

It's been ages since I've messed around with hair coloring, so I'm slightly nervous.
