What can one do with old makeup brushes besides throwing them away?  I have MANY but i just don't use or need the many that I have.  They are in good shape too. Any suggested uses?

Believe it or not I just used one of my old foundation brushes to spread some lubricant on parts of my overhead garage door last summer. It worked like a charm and then I tossed it.

Dusting figurines and that sort of thing. Maybe cleaning keyboard.

@bargainsgirl You might repurpose them. Use a powder or blush brush to dust the crevices in furniture or nick nacks. I use a soft paint brush, but the idea is the same.

You could donate the ones you know you will never use to one of those support organizations that help women "dress for success" for a job interview. I would imagine the abused women's shelters could find a use for them as well.

@SilleeMee    I appreciate creative and imaginative people!    I keep a box of assorted pouring spouts from "old" bottles.    The new ones seem to just have a cheap screw-on top.   Ummm, I confess....I keep a LOT of old stuff to reuse...    di

Offer them on a freecycle or buy nothing group. I'm sure they'd be much appreciated.

People have some good ideas here. I admit, I probably use 1/2 of the brushes I've accumulated over the years. I've kept them all for the "when the other gets old" and "just in case" it's needed....and in 20 years....some are still not needed or the older ones used up, rather still in perfect condition!

Maybe I should rethink how many to keep and what to do with the unused ones.

I expected someone snarkey to say..."Just throw out those old things!", instead, people have given good ideas.

@Desertdi

Me, too! I like to "reduce, recycle and reuse" instead of buying new.

I use old brshes as "craft brushes" (just used one on a wreath w/some silver paint) or they could go straight up to my studio to use as paint brushes.

I have a lot of potted plants, and when I repot them sometimes they get potting mix on the leaves and in crevices, so the soft make-up brushes are helpful to clean them up without damaging the plant.  I would not think it would be appropriate to donate these items.
