Official September 2021 Drugstore Divas thread

Well, hello, inexpensive beauty product lovers! I am sorry that I have been remiss and not posting much lately. I had a medical scare. I am still working on the problem and hope that it can be somewhat resolved.

On the beauty front, I haven't bought much lately. I am using up what I have, but that doesn't stop me from already starting to gear up for the holiday beauty items that are sure to be previewed soon. Those holiday kits and such really shine and sparkle to me and I don't need them!!! But I love to look and them and contemplate buying them.

I need to understand that I should only buy something if I don't have anything that does the same thing that I already own and to stop buying beauty colors that don't match with my skin tone! I have a cool skin tone and have no business wearing warm nude tones!! Somebody stop me from ever doing that again!!!!

Re: Official September 2021 Drugstore Divas thread

My experiment with drugstore makeup is not holding up with the high-end products for some items but is equal for some. The Elf camo concealer is not as good a Tarte's Shape Tape concealer and the brands quoMaybelline, L'Oreal, Neutrogena were quite awful-bad colors and streaky coverage.

However, Milani's baked highlighter is excellent and better than most high-end ones, including Laura Geller which surprised me. Elf baked highlighters are also excellent and incredibly inexpensive.

I am currently using L'Oreal's Lash Paradise mascara and it is quite good compared to my favorite Lancome Diffinicils but I still love the Diffinicils better. If I can get that on sale half price I will continue to use it if not I will stick to the L'Loreal.

The Colorpop products I bought are all in the garbage.  Their packaging is so cheap everything cracked and broke. Worse yet, you can't return them when you buy them on their site.

The Burt's Bees in Shy Pink is so excellent and compares to high-end brands that I have worn. Much better than It Cosmetics Je ne se quoi.

None of the drugstore brow pencils were excellent, but I haven't tried NYX and a few other brands.

Burt's Bees oil cleanser is nowhere in the league of my DHC oil cleanser so I won't be repurchasing that.

Aveda's Shampure duo and Tweaked by Nature's duo was not as good for me as Nexxus Therappe and Humectress that I used for 35 years so I am going back to the best (for me).

More to report later, I need to do some cleaning around here.

Re: Official September 2021 Drugstore Divas thread

@Squirrel Lover - I love all my Milani blushes and only use those now.  Agree that Milani highlighters are excellent and all I use.  As well as their bronzer.  Milani's eyeshadow base/primer is excellent and I like it better than Ulta's so have made the switch.  Also their peach corrector for under the eye is really good and have made the switch to using that too.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow foundation is my go to liquid foundation.  Will continue to use LG Balance and Brighten when I want to use a powder foundation even though its not a drugstore product.

Primers - I'm still working through my supply of primers as I have some Smashbox, LG Spackle, Paula's Choice primer but I've also added in Milani Soft Focus Glow "complexion enhancer" and use it as a primer and its works very well.

Eyelash primer - Was using Tarte primer but switched to L'Oreal and its working very well so will keep using it.

Also tried the Burt's Bees oil cleanser and when finished went right back to Paula's Choice Oil cleanser,

Was using IT's Bye Bye Pores powder but have switched to either Wet n Wild translucent powder or RCMA translucent powder.  Both very good and won't go back to IT's Bye Bye powder.

Mascara - I'm working through my stash.  Right now I"m using a Tarte mascara but did try the Essence mascara and it did not work for me.  After the current Tarte mascara, I'll be trying a L'Oreal mascara or a Maybelline.

Love NYX butter glosses so those are the glosses I use most often.

Concealer - I'm still trying different ones but none are drugstore.

I feel like I've done pretty good making the switch on makeup items.  Skin care products I think I will stay with Paula's Choice for now.

Will continue to try new drugstore makeup products when I feel like it. Feel if I can save in one area then using other higher cost items in another area won't hurt so much. LOL

I want to mention Smartly, the Target house brand for the budget conscious shopper.  The brand includes beauty and personal care items (also many household essentials, but that's another topic).  Here's a fewof the great buys. Check out the rest at target dot com or at your local Target store.

-Hand and Body Lotion 20 Oz $1.99 (Unscented, Citrus, Lavender or Rain Shower)

-Unscented Gentle Facial Cleanser 5 Oz. $1.99

-Unscented Facial Cleansing Wipes 30 Count  $.99

Re: Official September 2021 Drugstore Divas thread

We all have to use what we are comfortable with and if that's high-end, then so be it.

I personally have used both Tarte Shape Tape and Elf Camo and I like the Elf much, much better for me.  I found the Tarte Shape Tape to be way too drying.  I've not tried the new creamy version but I see no reason to since I like the ELF so much.  I also really like the Milani Conceal + Perfect.  However, I bought a shade that is slightly too dark for me which is a bummer.  But I ended up with an Incognito concealer that is slightly too light so I use a little of each for a good shade match.  Not ideal but I want to use them up.

I recently bought a Maybelline lipliner and now I cannot remember the color.  I'm not much of a lipliner girl but I bought Revlon lipgloss in sky pink and it has very little color.  I'm hoping that the pink liner will melt into the gloss and make a good shade.

I've been using and loving my Essence Taupe it Up eyeshadow palette.  The colors are fabulous.  For $3.99, I would recommend.

I think the ELF Lash It Loud mascara is going to hit the trash.  I like the formula but I hate the bristles on the wand.  It's the plastic bristles and more than once I've gotten too close and jabbed into my lashline and it's very uncomfortable.

I ended up returning my Persona Identity palette that I ordered during the Ulta 21 days of beauty.  Very pretty but as I looked at it, I opened other palettes I have and realized I have most, if not all, of those colors in other shadow palettes I own.  And I have 3 shadow palettes that came in Boxy Charm that I have yet to use including a gorgeous Violet Voss palette.

@Lipstickdiva so glad you mentioned the Essence Taupe eyeshadow palette.  Wanted to try it but its out of stock at Ulta so will wait.  For $3.99 its worth a try.

If I can't seem to get the concealers I have now to work for me to my satisfaction, then I may have to try the ELF camo concealer.  Is it a thick concealer?  I also tried Shape Tape both original and creamy and didn't like either one.  Way too drying.
