OT-Question about selling on eBay

I've been buying stuff on eBay for about 10 years, but have never sold anything. However, I'd really like to start selling some stuff that I have. Anyway, I've been trying to find out everything I'll need to know before I start, but the one thing I can't seem to find the answer to is this: Suppose I list something and it doesn't sell. Does the listing get automatically relisted and I would get charged another insertion fee? Also, suppose I just want to delete the listing. Would I be able to do that? Selling on eBay seems so daunting to me. I'm kind of scared to try it, but it can't be all that difficult, right? Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: OT-Question about selling on eBay

I would like to also have this addressed. I have sold items prior to this, but it has been years. One thing I noticed, was when ebay computes the shipping cost, I cannot ship the items I have for the amount they come up with. I hope some ebayers will share their experience. I have 2 Quacker F sweaters to list, but the fees and shipping costs have stopped me. TIA

Re: OT-Question about selling on eBay

You have the option of relisting the item automatically when you first set up the listing. You can uncheck the box and it won't relist.

As a first timer, I suggest putting 1-2 items up for sale just to see how it goes and to get your feet wet. I learned by doing.

As for the shipping question, it's possible it is calculating the online shipping price as opposed to the price you pay when you go to the Post Office. I know online postage is al ittle cheaper to use if you have a printer.

Re: OT-Question about selling on eBay

I've sold many things over the years, but nothing lately.

It's not a big deal, but it's a trial and error experience. If you want to cancel a listing, you can, but have to give a reason ... item no longer available, item damaged, etc.

One thing I would suggest is to keep in mind that whatever the time is you list it, that's the time the auction will end days later. While you might have time to list some auctions first thing in the morning, there might not be a lot of people around to bid the last minutes of your auction. I hope this makes sense ..... when I'm looking to get good prices with less competition, I look for odd hour auction endings. So, generally speaking, I would enter all auctions after noon and not later than 10 pm. Just my personal preference.

Re: OT-Question about selling on eBay

You might find this useful. In the community section of ebay, there are specialized groups designed for sellers. Many cater to helping newbie sellers - answering questions, giving helpful tips, moral support etc.

Somehow for some stupid reason ebay seems to have made it very hard to find groups and discussion boards. {#emotions_dlg.mad}

This will take you to the Discussion Help Boards. Auction Listings, Photography, PayPal, Seller Central etc

Great place to read and to ask questions.

As suggested above, it's best to list 1 or 2 items. Get your feet wet. Also, you should have a separate buying ID and selling ID. Sell some smaller items to build a good Feedback rating. Remember, Paypal holds payment if you are a new seller, until proof of delivery. It was in high-scam items. I'm not sure if it now applies to all new sellers.

What would you like to list?

Re: OT-Question about selling on eBay

Sellers get 100 free listings per month, so that shouldn't be an issue for you. If an item doesn't sell and you don't want to relist it, you can delete it from your unsold items, no problem.

Good luck!

You can cancel your listing, but depending on the reason, you still may be charged fees for early cancellation.

I have also found that the automatic pricing for shipping that EBAY suggests is usually way off. As well as the 'suggested pricing' they say for what you are selling; ("other's have sold this item for"). To me it just seems very random with the latter. I've had them say to sell an expensive item for $25 and they always tell you to list as an auction. I always ignore them!

Thanks so much for the links and advice. I have some beauty products that I'd like to sell that I don't plan on using. For example, I recently bought Josie Maran's 4-piece hand cream set. I already used the mini Vanilla Apricot from this set, but don't really care for the scent, so I'd like to sell the full-size one since I don't want to use it. I also have some Carol's Daughter body creams that are new and sealed that I want to sell. I love her products, but for some reason her body cream just doesn't agree with me. Perhaps it's the ingredients. I'm hoping to list these items on eBay to see if anyone would take these items off my hands. I'm a little confused about having different buying and selling ID's though. Aren't you just supposed to have one ID associated with your account? I do have Paypal, so I'm wondering how that would affect that. Anyway, thanks to all of you who responded and hopefully I will soon list one or two items to see how that goes.
