I own the HD 8.9". I don't need the mayday button. If you click on the contact button they will call you almost instantly, I've used it twice.

That's pretty amazing how quickly your phone rings, isn't it?! No sooner do you click help, it rings! Great customer service, too!

Re: OT--New Kindle/Fires launch!

As the OP, it's a bit ironic that I am now posting to say that I have decided to KEEP my KF/7" Instead of ordering the New KF/6". I have been using this KF non-stop w no problems...I have a nice case for it..and "if it ain't broke...don't fix it" (as the saying goes!) I know the new quad core w cameras is a better value, but I feel guilty returning this perfectly good KF. Anyway, w when the newer ones are actually sent out, I will be looking forward to the Reviews!

I just ordered the KF 7". I'm going to send back the LePan because there are absolutely NO cases or covers out there. Hope I like the Kindle! Smiley Happy

I found a case for mine. It's only for transport and storage, but that's all I need a case for. For me, it doesn't need to be in a case when I'm using it, only when I'm carrying it from one place to another. Mine is some generic case I got at Best Buy and it's a Nylon case with a zip top and microplush lining.

One of the best features is the "Mayday" button. Click on this and you instantly get a pop up window with a live tech to help you with anything. You can see them, but they can't see you.

I sure wish the iPad had this. My mom always calls me for tech support and I don't have an iPad, I have an iPhone. They're similar, but different enough that it matters. I have to have her tell me what she sees and she's not tech savvy enough to know what's relevant and what's not or what symbols really mean, so that takes forever. She doesn't know it's "the wifi symbol" or "the bluetooth symbol," so we have to describe everything. "Next to the picture of the crescent moon, do you see a symbol that looks like a letter B made of triangles or like a sideways bow? Yes, it could also be a Celtic rune. Tap that."

Sounds like she should take the free class on how to use ipad they offer at the apple store. Or she could use apple care. But I hear you, my husband always calls me for his windows problems and I haven't used windows in years so I have to try and figure it out because he doesn't know basic computer terminology either. I finally managed to teach him to google the problem in as short a description as possible.

The thing no one has mentioned about May Day button is that technician can take over your kindle HDX (and draw diagrams) to help you resolve in depth issues. My Kindle 8.9 is in constant use and I only use May Day for complicated issues but it would also be awesome for novice. BTW it blows away the competition including IPad (and no getting in car, going to store, for expertise guidance).

Re: OT--New Kindle/Fires launch!

I've never had a question with my ipad that wasn't solved by a quick google search and I'm tech savvy enough to not need tech support to take over my device and show me where things are physically. I've never taken any of the apple classes but my mom did ( she is completely tech illiterate) and I'm so glad it's available for people like her.
