OT Highlights

I just got my hair highlighted. My stylist used bleach with a low developer to do my highlights. She said the low developer wasn't as damaging. I asked her about using color because it is less damaging. She said something about that she would have to use more ammonia or something and she wasn't sure if it would lift enough without turning orange. Has anyone had highlights with color only with good results? My color is about a level 7 dark blonde with a little bit of an auburn color to it. I like my highlights, but I don't really want to keep putting bleach on my hair. TIA
