Anybody getting this TS? I'm thinking of picking one up as I like the concept and the meals look fairly decent.
One thing they don't mention though is that none of these meals contain actual meat in them. Even though the rep for Wise keeps saying that you can see the actual pieces of meat in it, if you look at the ingredient list on HSN you'll find that the "meaty sounding" meals only have textured vegetable protein in them as the "meat". The chicken soup is "chicken flavored" soup and contains the vegetable protein, no chicken. Same with the chili mac and stroganoff - no beef only the vegetable protein as the "meat".
Granted, if you're in an emergency situation I'm sure these will fill the need. But I just think it's a little deceiving to call the dishes by meaty names and not include any meat in them. At least explain that in the presentation. And they do sell a separate protein pack of meals that does contain real meat in it. I just wonder why they didn't include some of that real meat in a few of these dishes. I guess cost.

Fear mongering. And expensive fear mongering at that.
Yes, you need to prepare for emergencies, but.... there are better ways imo.

I agree, these meals are ridiculous. Just keep canned foods and water in the pantry.

I agree these meals are ridiculous. They show you add boiling water to most of the meals. If you can boil water you can make a ton of different meals from a normally stocked pantry. Pasta with sauce, macaroni and cheese. Add in some cans or pouches of tuna or chicken and you have more than acceptable meals. I doubt anyone worries about getting their vegetables in dire situations but if you do open a can of veggies.

This is my issue with companies that sell meals for emergencies, You also need water stored and a way to heat. If I have that I don't need this product, I prepare what I normally would.

Actually, they've said that you don't need hot water. You can use room temp water. They said they were using hot water to "speed up the process." Regarding TVP (textured vegetable protein), most of us vegetarians have used it in meals. I can guarantee you that I could make you sloppy joes or chicken noodle soup and you would not know that it was not real meat. It also is highly nutritious.
My problem with this food from this particular company is that they don't tell you some things. First, it is in packages of multiple servings. Therefore, it would be difficult to stretch its use out over a longer period of time for fewer people. Second, it is not nearly as tasty as some of the other emergency foods from other companies. But of course they wouldn't say that because they have to sell it. Finally, the 25-year shelf life has been disputed by a study done by a competing company. It detected too much O2 in the packs to allow them to last 25 years. Though the company has said they have now addressed this issue, they offer no studies to prove it. So, I would never take a chance with it.
This food might be good for emergencies in the next few years, but I wouldn't use it for camping, hiking, etc. and I would definitely scale down my expectations rather than believe their sales talk.

I completely agree with both of you. I live in a very urban area and this is somehting I don't need. saves me money on a temptation of a Ts.

This was my thought too. This TS had me shaking my head.

The ""food"" in this kit lasts 25 years??? What???
02-02-2015 05:39 PM
I can't imagine why anyone would really want dried food that supposedly lasts 25 years.
I watched a little of the presentation last night & the show host keep saying, "...you MUST have this..." Using scare tactics to sell dried food is pathetic. I agree with other posters about just keeping your own canned & dried goods, & water on hand for emergencies.
