Has anyone tried these new perms that seem to be all the rage now?

My hairdresser told me about them.   My hair is collar bone length and fine.  I can put a little curl in it and it's straight by lunch time.

She says they really just give some volumne and 'staying power'.    She doesn't give them but another styist in the salon does and my hairdresser called her over to talk to me about them.   I have an appt for Wed but am having second thoughts.

Any input?

You couldn't pay me enough to ever again get a perm.  How old are you? IMHO, the further north of thirty you are, the more aging a perm is.

I was afraid to comment as I don't want to sound rude, but I didn't know women still got perms. My mother used to make me get my hair permed when I was a child, and I hated it. I am in my late 60's and would not get a perm if you payed me. My hair is fine, but I wear it very short and stylish. I love it and get many compliments.

I promise to remind myself every day that I am strong, courageous, and resilient.

Born in the mid 50's, I had my share of Lilt and Toni home perms as a kid and even had a few in my 20's.  Hey, it was the style then.  I found them to be harsh on my hair and I hated the look when the perm grew out and I'd have that stupid flat/straight part again.  I've thought once or twice about a body perm because I'd like volume and staying power.  I never get any further than the thought because I don't want to go through the growing out process and frustrations.  It's a no for me.

Try it!!  I love to have my hair body permed.  It is NOT like in the olden days.  It adds body and fullness to my fine thin hair.

According to what she said, pictures she showed me and what I've read they are NOT the old perms .  I've done lots of 'googling' on them.  They just give some bend and volume to hair.   They make it easier to achieve a loose 'beachy' type of style.

That's why I asked if anyone was familiar with these NEW types of perms.   Not the old ones.  I know all too well about them.

I know several Asian women at my university that have this done. It doesn't damage their hair and IMO is looks better when it grown out and it's straight on top and wavy at the bottom. My hair is naturally wavy and when I had really long hair I would style it like that with soft curls/waves on the ends and straight on top. It looks really nice.

Maybe it's worth a try then.  Let us know and post B/A pics.

I understand it gives volume without the frizz or extra curl. You do have to style it after a wash. Not sure if it is suggested one does both volumizing perm and hair color.

The only new-ish perm that I know about is a body perm by Vavoom. It’s done at a salon, not at home. The only reason I know about this is because my niece who had bra length, very thick and straight was damaging her hair with a curling iron. So she asked her hairdresser for an alternative. Her hair wasn’t curled by the perm, but it looked as though she used a curling iron on the ends for a little bounce. She still had straight hair with bore of a beachy wave if that makes sense.

I learned about Vavoom perms about 30 years ago as being a body perm, but I’m sure there have been incarnations of it.
