I reunited with my oldest dearest friends last week. We haven't seen each other in 45 years. They are sisters age 74 and 71. Im also 74-she and I have been friends since infancy as our moms and dads were best friends and had kids at the same time.

Anyhow these ladies and I yakked for days. One topic was beauty routines. It seems we have all pared down our use of products for skin care and makeup to a minimum. The 71 yr old said she recently stopped using mascara and felt liberated 😄 We all wear glasses, honestly cant tell if someone has mascara on or not. Concealer, brows,and light blush are a must. But taking my friend's advice, I haven't used mascara since I got back home last Thursday. It speeds up both my morning and bedtime routines.

I don't think anyone that i encounter notices or cares. The perks of old age.

I only use it for special occasions anymore.  My eyes are so sensitive that they water constantly giving me raccoon eyes.  I only use tubing mascara but I still get that on my cheeks.

I stopped wearing it and really don't care what my eyes look like.

I'm good with eyebrows and blush.

The last time I used mascara I got an eye infection.  Haven't used it since and that was more than a decade ago.

@smoochy

Last May-June DH and I were in Naples moving into our new first floor condo...in our early 80's and the double pot side staircase to our  second floor condo got to be too much.

Emptying out and either placing or deciding to donate what no longer could fit in smaller cabinets and closets was a major project: the movers stacked the 50+ bins in the garage.  We worked in the 98+ temperature and high humidity for 3 weeks almost non-stop to get back home by mid-June !

The mascara application went by the wayside and continues except if we are going out / meeting friends.  I can tell the difference even though the upper eyelid does get a marker line drawn by the lash line.  Switching to the Doll 10 made it easier to take off than my old mascara.

We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.

I am 77.  I haven't used mascara on a regular basis for a few years. I will put on tips of lashes...  Only when I go out to drs, or shopping, or vacay... which isn't often.  I too developed a tear duct clogging and slight infection. After I had MOHS surgery for Basel cell on my tear duct of all places!!! It is liberating.  And wow, the time it saves, just removing it at night.

Re: No more mascara

[ Edited ]

I think too many mascara  and eye liner wearers wind up looking like they have raccoon eyes. In my opinion, less is more and certainly more natural looking.

I stopped wearing it after my cataract surgery in 2018. It always makes my eyes water.

I gave up on most of my makeup after the pandemic. At first I felt 'naked' but then I got used to it so now I just wear it on occasion and not wearing as much as I used to.

I am 73, I stopped eyeliner on top lid, but use it on bottom, and still use mascara, but I dont use blacks in the liner or mascara, charcoal liner and black cherry mascara. Sometimes navy liner and mascara.
