I went to the Ulta store last week. I don't have an Ulta Card so I started to apply for one and they asked me for my social security number???? I couldn't believe it. None of the places I shop at have  "needed" that so I told them to forget it and that I didn't give my soc. security # out. Has this happened to anyone else?

Was this for a credit card or a membership card?

It seems like a basic piece of information any credit application would ask for.

@jubilant If you are filling out an application for an ULTA credit card, seems like that is a normal question

Perhaps you are not familiar with applying for credit. Every CC company asks this.

@jubilant

Whenever you apply for a credit card, they ask the normal questions ... including your SS number and DOB, among other things.

This is normal procedure and NOT Ulta trying to pull a fast one on you.

I don't give my SS# out to anyone.

I haven't applied for a credit card in many years because I have the basics and don't want tons of individual store credit cards, so I don't know if it's the norm or not but I wouldn't give mine out either....

Once I paid off my store cards years ago, I haven't got another one since either.  I do miss my Belk card because they have one that allows ZERO interest if you pay the balance within 90 days.  I'm always tempted to get another, but so far haven't.😃❤️

@cheriere

Good for you in paying them off!

Sure makes you feel good when you don't have a lot of debt hanging over your head.

I have the basics, Amex,MC, and Visa and pay those off at the end of the month for the most part.....

@jubilant.  That's the only way they can check your credit and be assured they have the right person.  All credit applications ask for your SS number.
