@Laura14 No hand is not best, but it is easy to clean.  This is a messy process.  Once you get down to good choices I would move to the face.

When I have done it or done with BF or DDs, it is a shock to see what is a good color.  For years I thought I needed light pink blush since I was a blond German.  Nope.

One DD is dark olive and low and behold, raspberry blush is a keeper.

Keep a open mind.  You are in for some fun and a face wash.  When you find it, it will have to be pried out of your cold, dead hand.

@tucsongal  Concealer would solve my biggest issue.  I just need to find one that works.  IT did not and I hate the texture of it.

My mother gave me one of hers a long time ago when I was much younger that was perfect.  I didn't keep it because it wasn't a big deal at the time and now neither she nor I can remember who it was or what shade. Smiley Sad  I remember it came in a small green tub but I can not remember anything else about it unfortunately.  She thinks it may have been Covergirl.

I do the same thing with the natural look except I do like eyeliner and some mascara.  I do have the Bye Bye pores powder which I like although I find PTR's pore putty does a better job for me and is easier to use so I usually pull that out instead when I have the time and think I need a little something extra.

@Still Raining  LOL  I hope I find it and you are so right.  Once I get my hands on a concealer especially, I will burn the makeup facility down if they ever think of not making it again at some point.

I use Benefit’s Boi ing hydrating concealer(used to be called Fake up). It’s in a tube and the concealer is surrounded by a clear hydrating product. I press it on with a finger rather than applying it directly and it’s very moisturizing. It doesn’t completely hide my circles but it takes the edge off, LOL. It’s much easier to use than IT concealer and works as well I think.

I do wear mascara, a light shadow on lids and a brown shadow as eyeliner and always lip color! I’m one whose daily make up is the same as “going out” make up, except for maybe a stronger lip color.

@Laura14It's going to be trial & error to see what you like, but you just want some basics so that will make it a bit easier.

Sephora is a great place to go because they will be able to try a variety of products & colors. Don't get intimidated or overwhelmed. But do be clear about what you want. Don't say to them "You are the expert" & let them tell you what to buy, but work with them.

Concealer-do you have a preferred applicator? Do you like a doe foot applicator (Like a lip gloss) or a click pen or a pot? Nars Radient Creamy Concealer is very easy to use, gives great coverage & comes in 24 colors. You can get a small size for $13, but only a small selection of colors. The Sephora website has great color descriptions & swatches on skintones for you to look at.

I like Tarte Tinted Treatment BB Primer SPF30 & Philosophy Renewed Hope In A Jar Skin Tint as light coverage foundations. They even out my skintone, but never look heavy, I don't get oily & they don't break me out. If you like a powder/mineral foundation (they don't give me any oil control) LG Baked & Brighten is nice. You can apply it with brushes or sponges to adjust the coverage.

If you want to try different eye shadow, blushes, liners then that is just the fun stuff. I have been using a lot of shadow crayons/sticks because they are fast & easy to get a simple, but polished look.

I mostly use drugstore products.  Today I tried a foundation in my stash I haven't touched in a while and I like it.  Maybelline Fit Me in the dewy & smooth option.  It also comes in matte which I like for the summer when I am oily.

It does take some experimenting to find the right shade but I have gotten better at it.  Shop at stores where you can exchange or return.  I also tried prestiege brands at dept. stores and didn't think they were any better than the drugstore brands.

I refuse to order online as I cannot see what the color looks like.  Ulta or Sephora are good for looking around and getting ideas.

@Dusty1  I like the stick concealers or I don't mind the finger application from a tube or tub.  I have never heard of a doe foot or click pen that is how out of it I am.

I also have never heard of Nars but with that many colors I hope I wuld find something to cover my skin tone.  I will look them up and @tucsongal's Benefit Boi.

I am going to head over to the Sephora site and see what they have and those swatches.  Thank you!

Re: New makeup suggestions

[ Edited ]

@Laura14You didn't mention your skin type. When you go to Sephora or a dept.store just get several samples from different brands. They should give you enough of a sample to see if you like it. If you think IT CC cream has glitter (i have sampled it & to me its just a satin to semi matte med.coverage finish without glitter) than tell the SA that you prefer a more natural semi-matte med. coverage finish so you can narrow down your choices. It takes time to get foundations that we like for sure. I have found mine & been using for years except one. I get the urge to try others & have tryed samples but nothing compares to what works for me. I hope you find yours soon, Good Luck! Come to think of it, you might prefer a light coverage that can build to med. without looking cakey.

@Laura14Looking at the website may just raise more questions, but you can see we love to talk about makeup!

Makeup Alley is also a great place to ask questions & their reviews are wonderful to look at.
