Have you used other Neutrogena sunscreen products without reaction? Helioplex is their patented sunblock and I believe is in all their products. You might be allergic to it? Another possibility is that the can you purchased was expired and an ingredient was bad. I know my dil had a similar issue with the Walmart brand Equate sunscreen and the product was expired (date stamp on bottom of her container) and she had actually just purchased it.
I have used the wet skin sunscreen before and had no problems.

Is this the first time you've used that brand? I've been using Neurtogena's Ultrasheer Liquid SFF70 with Helioplex and never had any problems. Helioplex is unique to Neutrogena. Other brands do not have it.

Note: I have had no reaction to the sunscreen for my face and I have been using that daily for several months so I do think this maybe isolated but the wet skin is a spray and not a lotion.
Glad they're refunding. It's concerning though that while close to expiration it was expired. There is usually at least a few months of "cushion" with expiration dates before a product becomes problematic. I wonder if your reaction is to whatever they added to their standard product that makes it effective on wet skin?

You may very well be allergic to Helioplex. I found out the hard way that I am. I had welts and awful itching from it. Went to my dermatologist when I had the bad reaction and she said the chemical mix in"Helioplex" contains avobenzone and oxybenzone, which many people are allergic to. (Add me to the list!) She recommended that I stick with physical (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) sunscreens only in lieu of any chemical sunscreens. I haven't had a bad reaction on face or body since using only physical sunscreens.
