I have fine hair cut in a chin length bob. (Lots of it, but fine.) I have it professionally colored (and trimmed) about every six weeks. That's enough time right now to keep the grey at bay and not noticeable. I've never used any conditioner regularly because it flattened my hair. I've used various and sundry shampoos and never really thought about it. My hair always came out fine, never really dried out or was damaged. I was blessed!
Lately, I've been experiencing severe tangling - and consequently lots of hair in the comb/brush - after washing and before blow drying. I've tried conditioner only on the ends, but the tangling is most severe nearer to my head. So now, with conditioner (I tried after shampoo spray on detangler and the result was the same as conditioner), I look like a wet cat most of the time. My hair is SOOOO soft, it has no body whatsoever no matter how I dry it.
Is there a body boosting product I should use before blowdrying to reduce the flatness?
I'm stumped!

I bought some Calista products via QVC for my sister who has very fine flat limp hair . I think Amy Stran had advocated the same products . The products do work well for her.

The one that I have ordered over and over again for about 15 years is Avenda Volumizing tonic, my hair is baby fine (lots of it) and long, this is the only thing I have found that makes me feel like I have more hair and will give me some more body, I do use a light hold hairspray as well. You can read reviews on Nordstrom or the Aveda website, they also have smaller bottle you can order to try it before ordering a bigger size

My first thought was to possibly prevent the tangling by using a satin pillowcase if you aren't already.

@skatting44 , can you tell me which Calista items are working for her? Thanks!
I did just order the oval shaped brush/dryer from Calista. That helps initially, but after an hour, it's flat head again. Too much conditioner?

@Sammijo10 do the people at the hair salon style your hair after the cut and color? If you are happy with their results, ask them what they are putting on your hair as they do it. Don't ask them at another time, they might just try to sell you something else.
This is what I have done. Most hair salons sell products, but what they sell and what they use on you may be different.

When you get your hair colored are they using a glaze? This makes my hair extremely soft for a few weeks. I no longer get the glaze, my hair is better without it. These are the products I really like..
Hask Biotin Boost Thickening Condtioner. (really inexpensive, does not weigh my fine hair down)
before blow drying. Aveda Damage Remedy daily hair repair
Boldify hair thickening spray by brand Hollywood

I know you asked for recommendations for volume and but I have thin, fine hair and have dealt with tangling all my life. A few years ago, I tried Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3 and my hair doesn't tangle anymore. The directions say to use it at least once a week but I use it every other month (I leave it on longer than directed) and no more tangles. It's available at Nordstrom and Sephora. The bottle is small but since I only use it every other month, it last's me at least a year. I wasn't sure what to expect when I first tried it but I've continued to buy it because of this unexpected benefit. Maybe if you could solve the tangling problem, you could use less conditioner.

@Sammijo10 I also have fine but thick straight hair that I keep in a bob. I use conditioner and my hair at times does get flat on top.
I've been using velcro curlers (at the crown) on dry hair to give some lift and spray with a root lifter ...I use Living Proof Full Root Lift (Sephora). Then hit it with the hair dryer again.
I will run my fingers through my hair once I take the curlers out then spray Tweaked by Nature 2XL Fiber Lift Dry Volumizing sprayA354856 which works well for me....it's gotten mixed reviews but it really depends on the needs of each person.
Doing this gives me lift and I add a shot of hair spray to finish it off.
