Very unusual, Biotin is touted as having no side effects and is safe to consume. It is recommended all the time  for those with thinning hair and in need of nail help. Always best to be your own advocate and do your own research. Also unsual that physicians even know much about supplements unless they are also trained in homeopathic med.  Most, including my own doc is clueless about most supplements.

@Shelbelle .. I can't take biotin.. it messes up my thyroid levels on my blood work.

Re: Need recommendations for nail strengthener.

@jlkz   I tried using Sally Hansen Miracle Nails Nailgrowth Treatment.  But it actually made my nails worse.  So I am a bit leery about using the nailgrowth miracle serum.

Nailtiques Formula 2.  I cannot believe how strong my nails are.  They don't bend or flake anymore.  You apply it every other day.

I am certainly not a doctor, but I think if you stop taking Biotin a week or so before the blood test it should be fine. I always stop it a week before a blood draw. It is a known fact it can mess up blood results with thyroid.

The reason why biotin messes with blood tests is biotin is a reagent ingredient used in certain lab test kits. Biotin supplements that end up in the blood steam will interfere with the biotin used in the lab test kits so the lab test results will be inaccurate.

@Boehm Collector

We are away from home on vacation so I don't know what is in the ingredient listing for either product.  I have only used the serum on the horrible nails.....all my life my nails were mid-length and very strong until my late 70's.

If you used the " matte " or dull gold bottle, then you were using a product that also had nail polish in it.  That could do a number on your nails.  ( This is why I posted the picture of the shiny gold bottle. )

If you're still leery, I suggest you try some of the posters' other recommendations.

Hard Rock clear nail hardener by Deborah Lippman. I use it alone and as a base coat. Her line as well as Londontown Kur, are my preferred nail products

Re: Need recommendations for nail strengthener.

Are you sure it's a nail strengthener that you need? If they are splitting and breaking, and not bendy and flexible, you might need to oil them and skip the hardener/ strengtheners, those will just make things worse.

Re: Need recommendations for nail strengthener.

I love Londontown kur gel nail hardener.  I also use Londontown creamy cuticle treatment  and their cuticle oil. Works well for me. Their illuminating nails veils are good, too. Watch Good Morning America Tory Johnson for discounts on Londontown. Good luck!
