I am near your age and also have combination skin (mine is also acne prone). I have found Isomers and Dr. Perricone products work for me. I like to mix Isomers serums with moisturizers to make them absorb into the skin better. Most moisturizers out there make my face look greasy and if they are very heavy make my skin break out. La Mer would wreck my skin big time.

I don't want a moisturizer that sits on my skin. I need it to penetrate and live a nice soft feel - not sticky. I'm 67 years old, have combination skin that turns oily if the moisturizer is too heavy.
I tried Skinn, but I think this line is for women with dry skin so had to send everything back.
I exfoliate 2-3 times a week and use Vanicream to cleanse my face. It is very gentle and doesn't contain chemicals.
Of course, I'd like to keep it economical, but will pay for good results.
Ok, ladies, let me hear from you!
try the Olay micro sculpture serum and or moisturizer in the red jar. I always used regenerist but switched to microsculpture and love it. I have both the serum (use under foundation) and moisturizer in the red jar that I use at night time.

My skin loves Perricone too.. but I'm a little on the dryer side with no tendency for break-outs---so still top whatever I use with a moisturizer. Not always, but 80% of the time.
Perricone got my skin in the best shape of my life. I have a natural glow (not oil slick ) & get stopped by strangers who ask what I use.

One of the chemical exfoliaters can help too. I use both AHA & BHA from Paula's Choice. I'm prone to broken capillaries, so going this route works best for me.

doglover - I'm a canine lover too!
Thanks for reminding me. Those OOO micro sculpt products are 'on the list' next to try after I finish this jar of Cream Reverse (which I do like a lot, though it's on the pricey side )
I don't mind paying more for some of the products which keep my skin tip-top, but feel I can get by spending much less on other good moisturizers.

It's very rich and nice and creamy--very hydrating. It's for normal to dry skin, but she has a line for normal, oily, and combination skin, too. Her line is very reasonably priced.
NickNack, I used to use Olay Regenerist night cream but wanted something that wasn't in a jar. I've been using PC's Skin Recovery moisturizer for about a year now, and I would say that it's probably my most favorite products in the line. I use it every night, and I use it in the day as an eye cream.
SuzyQ, you were one of the ones that encouraged me to try PC. You and IrishRose are the main reasons that I've using it now. I really appreciated your input when I was inquiring about her products.

Katcat - I saw a few youtube videos for La Mer. They were not encouraging at all. A couple of reviewers said they broke out using the Creme de La Mer. It was too heavy for them. One male reviewer said it smelled like and had the same ingredients as Nivea Daily Moisturizer. He highly recommended the Nivea.
Since I've ordered a sample, I won't be out a bunch of money. Will most likely go with Dr. Denese.
Your tip to mix serum & moisturizer is a good one.
Also, I see that the OOO Regenerist in the red jar is getting good remarks.
All in all, I believe it's trial and error until we find the one that works.

This is such a tough question to answer because what works for one person can be a disaster for another with the exact same skin type. I have combo/oily, sensitive skin with rosacea. Creme de la Mer clogged my pores and broke me out badly, plus it didn't absorb well for me. Yet others have had miraculous results with it. Same with Dr. Denese's Hydroshield and other moisturizers. What works for me is Clinique Moisture Surge when I'm a bit oilier and Murad Hydrodynamic Ultimate moisturizer when my skin is more dry. I also like pure squalane oil which isn't really an oil at all, absorbs rapidly and hydrates well.
I was having a similar problem with moisturizer not absorbing, so I started exfoliating more frequently. It helped tremendously! Since my skin is sensitive, I have to be careful with exfoliation. I'm using Paula's Choice 4%bha foam once a week, two or three times a week I use the Foreo Luna (I can't use the clarisonic because it irritates my skin, the luna is equally effective but much gentler and no irritation), and the other nights I use a muslin cloth to remove my cleanser (it provides a very gentle exfoliation).

For penetration, you need something like phospholipids, fatty acids, linoleic acid.

Is it my imagination, or are there more problems with acne breakouts than there used to be? When I was a young adult, acne was a teenagers' trauma ..... now it seems a lot of mature adults are still dealing with it!
What gives?
