I finally opened the box of Calista hot rollers that I bought when they went on clearance.  I let hair air dry with nothing on it before using rollers as directed.  One night of sleeping and hair is flat.  I have short hair, nothing longer than 3 inches. Can I use a setting product?  I normally just use 8 velcro rollers on top with Michael de Cesare setting mousse and let it air dry.  I blow dry hair only in an emergency, I end up with frizz.

Yes, @depglass, you can use a setting product.  I like to use Calista Tools Texturizing Spray to mist the section of hair prior to rolling it.

I've gotten away from hot rollers lately, though, when I want curls and lift.  I bought some Goody Thermal Self Holding Rollers and like how they work for me.  My hair is long, but not real thick.  To towel dried hair, I mist some Redken Pillow Proof (has heat protection) and then blow it to damp-dry.  Then I follow the same system of misting each section with some of the Calista spray before putting the roller in.  Then I use the blow dryer, making sure I get the whole head.  Then I do other things while the rollers cool down.  The end result is a nice amount of lift and curls.

Re: Need help with hot rollers

@depglass  Hello. If you have a frizz problem when blow drying, I'd suggest a deep conditioning treatment like the Garnier ones at drugstores first. Hair gets dehydrated like skin. Skin flakes & hair frizzes. When using the hot rollers, I'd use a heat protectant spray first (also protect hair from damage & frizz). Then apply a mousse or light spray of hairspray before using rollers. Let products dry before rolling. Rollers can be cleaned w/damp cloth (unplugged, duh!) if build up occurs. I don't know any hair type that would get lasting curl w/o product. Second problem could be that rollers too large for your short hair. If so, hair doesn't wrap around enough times (at least 1 & 1/2 times) to secure a good curl. If hair barely wraps around roller, no curl. Hope this helps.
