I've been using it for a couple of years now and learned the hard way about the drying and flaking. I had to back off for awhile in the beginning and start over. To ease into it, apply the Retin-A a couple of times a week for 2-3 weeks, the, maybe move to an every other day schedule for a couple of weeks, and then nightly. Only use the Retin at night and use a little moisturizer with it, if you need to - not by mixing them together, but by applying the moisturizer after your cleansing routine and then a little later you can apply your Retin-A. I'm pretty much on an every other night schedule, alternating my Retin-A (0.1%) with an AHA treatment on the in-between nights, but on one of the weekend days I don't do either of them because I do a Skinn ABC Peel.
Thank you JLF for the info.

You're welcome. I hope you find a routine that works out for you.

I have been using Retin-A for several years and it still can cause peeling and dryness.
The dryness has gotten worse actually.
I am down to the 0.025% every 3rd night for now. It's worse in winter.
I get so frustrated that I sometimes consider NOT using it anymore. I have had to take week long breaks from it this winter.

If you can't mix moisturizer with Retin-A, and I have dry skin what is the best way to apply it? As soon as i wash my face it is already dry so I need to apply serum or moisturizer right away.
