Re: Need advice about skin care

Thanks to all of you for your input about Cerave.  It doesn't sound like it is what I am looking for.  Ever since Scott Borba stopped producing his wonderful moisturizers and eye creams I have had a hard time replacing those items I used for years.  For some time I was able to purchase them on E Bay but now if they can get one or two the cost is ridiculous and as much as I would like to buy them I refuse to give in to seller's who are taking advantage by asking two or three times the amount of what the actual cost used to be. Thanks again to all of you.

Re: Need advice about skin care

I highly recommend CeraVe as one of the most 'neutral' and gentle lines, with no fragrance, and basic non-reactive ingredients that work for most skin types. They're ALWAYS worth trying, and their PM moisturizing facial lotion is one I always keep handy. Its light and water-based, and most recently I chose it over some oil based heavier ones I normally use because I got a bad sunburn on my arms and neck! I just applied a good natural aloe vera, let that dry a bit (I use Shea Terra Organics' South African Aloe in a pump bottle, which is spectacular,) and then this lotion.

Always worth a try and reasonably priced. It is one of my "two" favorite drugstore lines: ALPHA (was: Alpha Hydrox) and CeraVe. Very effective products at reasonable prices. (Especially with coupons and deals!)

The only thing they're missing? A good mineral-physical (not chemical) based sunscreen. I recommend IT CC 50+ cream for face, and also EltaMD 41 (or any Elta MD, read the labels they have chemical and physical sunscreens.)

Re: Need advice about skin care

@cerinthe, CeraVe does have an all-physical sunscreen that comes in either 30 SPF or 50 SPF. I believe they are revised versions of previous products.

I was very excited to try the 50 SPF version. It was horrible. It was not nearly "invisible," as advertised. That alone wouldn't have bothered me so much, but it was also a very strange texture and did not work for at all.

Re: Need advice about skin care

cerinthe...After reading your post I decided to give it a try.  I ordered the Lotion and the Cleanser that a seller was selling both for $21.25 and am looking forward to trying them.

Thanks to all the rest of you for your thumbs up for the product as well.

Re: Need advice about skin care

I,too am looking for an unscented moisturizer for occasional dry spots on my face even though I use philosophy scrub. I looked for Cerave specifically for the face and couldn't find it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Re: Need advice about skin care

If you mean dry and flaky, especially with lots of peeling or flaking, maybe an Alpha moisturizer would be something you'd like. The 10% lotion is a gentle place to start.

But it if you means dry and sensitive or red or windburn type dry, then I'd look for something soothing and gentle. Either the cereve PM lotion... Or you could even add a pat of natural oils (argan, tsubaki, Marula, just about any that caught your fancy,) over or under the cereve for extra punch or pat a little Shea butter melted on your finger tips too to seal it in. I like layering moisturizers, especially over a damp face to really lock in that moisture. Also look for lotions with hyalauronic acid high on the label to add even more moisture in.
