I never bought a wig before, but a few weeks ago I finally took the leap and purchased the Toni Brattin Classic Bob. To say that I love it would be an understatement.

My own hair rests on the top of my shoulders and is on the fine side. At last, I don't have to worry about styling my hair (I never had the knack for it), I don't have to worry about coloring my hair and I don't have to worry about my hair frizzing up in the rain and humidity. I love that I can literally run my fingers through the wig and play with the layers and bangs.

I was worried that it would feel uncomfortable and hot wearing it, but I've worn it in hot and very humid weather and had no problem. After awhile, I forgot that I was even wearing it.

My question is, what kind of shampoo do you use to wash it? Do you use a conditioner too? Can I use a regular shampoo, or is it necessary (or better) to use a wig shampoo?

I've been looking on the Paula Young site and there's a kit with shampoo, conditioner, hair spray and a drying stand for under $18.

There's also a 5-piece styling comb and brush set for $6. Could I just use my regular wide tooth comb? Right now, I'm just using my fingers to style the wig.

Any help, or tips, would be most appreciated as I'm new to all this.

PS. My husband LOVES the wig!!

Wig shampoo to wash. Look up YouTube video on washing and styling synthetic wigs. It couldn’t be easier.

Just a capful  Of shampoo in cool water in sink, swish around wig for a minute. Rinse thoroughly .

Take wig inside out and vigorously shake 3 Times to remove excess water. Hang up wig from hanger, upside down. In a few hours you will have a dry clean wig in the same style it came in.

You can use a wide comb, but the less “styling “ the better.  With a lot of combing and brushing wig will get fizzy.

Amazon has shampoo. I respectfully suggest getting at least 1 more wig to change off.

Enjoy your new hairstyle 💁‍♀️!

No special wash is needed, just use the shampoo you have. I had 3 of them during my chemo days and washed them all with my normal shampoo.

@IMW  Thank you!!

I saw several demo's on YouTube this morning - yes, it's very easy.

I already have my eye on a slightly different style wig already, LOL!

@wagirl  Thanks, I think I will just use my own shampoo. Wasn't sure if I really needed a special wig shampoo.

So sorry to hear about the chemo. Hope you're doing better!

@lmt

I find it strange that your new wig did not come w/washing instructions.

@Mz iMac  Actually, it did. There are care instructions on a card that also included two bobby pins. It says to use mild shampoo.

In my above post, I was wondering if I should use my own shampoo or would a wig shampoo be better. From browsing the Paula Young site, I saw that they also make a wig conditioner and was wondering if I really needed to use it - nothing in the care instructions mentions using a conditioner.

I'm trying to take the best care of the wig that I can so it will last a long time and still look good. I'm willing to use special products if it will prolong the life of the wig. That's why I was asking for help/opinions from those who have experience with wigs.  Smiley Wink

Re: Need Wig Help

[ Edited ]

I’m so glad you found one you like @lmt....

Ive been wearing them for many years because of hereditary hair loss .

I have always used shampoo, conditioner, hair sprays etc. that are for synthetic hair, because I wanted them to last as long as possible. Im really careful with them and they last me for years.

Finger styling is one of the best ways to keep the fibers from stretching and frizzing. Especially with longer fibers.

I think faux hair is addictive....next thing you know, you’ve got several !

have fun 😊

p.s....I love the collapsible plastic wig stands for when I’m not wearing them...lets the fiber air out and they are great for travel too.

@Azcowgirl  I think you're right, I can see where this could become addictive. I already have my eye on another style that I like. Smiley Very Happy
