Need Help With A Color Problem!

Hey ladies, I have been having this issue for a long time. I make my appointment with my hairdresser every 4 weeks for both a trim and color. But, I don't need a trim, usually every 5-6 weeks and my hair is short.

My daughter told me about a product at Walgreens, Clairol Root Touch Up, that can last for weeks. I only need it around my hairline, have bangs, so in front of ears and at the nape of the neck. When my hairdresser trims my hair every 4 weeks, it's way too short! I would like to make the trim extend, and was wondering if the Touch Up would be the way to go! Please advise, as I can't take this TOO short hair anymore! TIA
