Re: Need Clarification on Primer and Sunscreen, etc., please!

@AngelPuppy1 if possible you may want to try a daytime moisturizer with sunscreen in it, -  all the major department store cosmetic brands have them. I would talk to a knowledgeable makeup consultant in a store.

Thank you for your kind post!  I don't go out in the sun on purpose.  My exposure is accidental and casual.  I do some gardening but I always wear a hat.  I struggle to keep my complexion on an even keel as it is.  Now having to worry about skin cancer and wearing sunscreen -- finding the right one, etc -- is a big problem and worry for me!

I'm sorry that you have had to undergo these procedures.  But I am glad you are doing well.  I really need to wear makeup because my skin is not nice looking any more.  Rosacea - redness, broken caps, uneven places, blemishes, etc.  So, trying to figure out all of this stuff is worrying me.  Thanks for your post!

All your skincare. Sunscreen after skincare then your primer. Prayers for you.. rule of thumb is don't rely on your makeup as your sunscreen. Moisturizer would be your last skin care step. Then sunscreen. Unless you use a moisturizer with sunscreen. Primer right before makeup.

@ccassaday

Thank you for your post.  I am a little confused.  So you are saying - moisturizer, sunscreen and then primer???  And makeup, of course, last.  I wasn't sure what order to put primer.

The order of sunscreen application depends on if it's mineral or if it's chemical.

Mineral ss is applied after skincare and before cosmetics.

Chemical ss is applied on clean dry skin, like you would apply a serum, so it absorbs in order for it to provide the SPF listed on the bottle and a period of 15 to 30 minutes of waiting time before going under the sun to allow it to absorb completely. Moisturizers and cosmetics can be applied after the chemical ss has dried completely and it's not necessary to wait any longer than that.

Your best sun defense is to use a separate sunscreen-only product rather than using a SPF- foundation or a SPF-moisturizer.

The amount you apply is important. Two finger amount for face and another two finger amount for neck/dec.

Thank you for your post - I appreciate it!

This sounds dumb but how do you know which sunscreen is which?  I know a lot of sunscreens say "Mineral" on them but if it doesn't say that, does that mean that they are "Chemical"???

Which do you think is better for somebody like me?  Rosacea and very reactive skin?

Thank you so much!

@AngelPuppy1. Sorry to ask if this is too personal but I have also been diagnosed with Basel Cell skin cancer on my face and it has been suggested that I have the MOHS surgery. I’m scarred to death about the scarring I’m not sure what to expect. I have an overactive imagination and I have visions of a huge scar.

@Bellini13

I am sorry for you having this!  It is scary but try not to worry as they will take good care of you.  I was really scared as well.  Does it appear to be a very large spot?  My area is on my scalp --- right on my hair part.  So, they had to shave some of my hair off.  I just went yesterday for my last checkup.  It's healing well but looks ugly.  The doctor says this area will fade with time but takes a long time.

Did they explain the MOHS surgery to you?  They will take a layer at a time until they reach where there is no more cancer so it takes a few hours while you are there.  They will give you complete care instructions.

I'm sure if necessary, they will also provide repair to the area if necessary.  I had an area on my nose - very small - years ago - and I have a tiny scar left which when I wear makeup you can't even see.

Please try to be calm.  I kept trying to tell myself -- at least they got it at this stage and not when it had progressed to a much more serious stage.

Also, they numb the area very well and if you need more numbing agent for pain, they will give it.  I didn't really feel much at all while they were doing it.  Afterwards, I had some pain for several days but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle.

Let me know how things go for you, o.k.?  And you will be fine, o.k.???  Blessings!!

@AngelPuppy1. Thank you so much for sharing. I have a smal spot on the left side of my chin. Where they took off the mole and biopsy it’s completely healed you really have to look for the spot. The mole was flesh tone not discolored or brown but my dermatologist spotted it. I’m meeting with her again and we will discuss surgeon options. Oh and it’s basal. Thank you again and bless you.

@AngelPuppy1

Sensitive skin types do better with mineral ss. It's usually stated on the bottle if it's mineral.

In this order:

1.  Skincare

2.  Sunscreen

3.  Primer

4.  Foundation
