@Quinny,
Well, it depends on how much money you want to spend and how much time you want to spend learning about skin care products and ingredients. If you want to take the easy route, then order a kit from Paula's Choice. You can also purchase decent products at the drugstore/Ulta/WalMart/Target if you're willing to do a little research on your own.
If you don't have any major problems you want to address, you don't really need to do more than wash your face, apply moisturizer and sunscreen, especially since you still have an oily t-zone.
If you're interested in anti-aging, then it gets a little bit more complicated. Here's a nice article from Paula Begoun on the anti-aging ingredients to look for. The main anti-aging products that are discussed on the forum include a Vitamin C serum (antioxidants), hyaluronic acid and ceramides (skin identical ingredients), retinol and peptides (cell-communicating ingredients) and sunscreen.
I'm 59, had super oily, acne prone skin and now still have an oily t-zone. Personally, I didn't find the Isomers line to do much for my skin type. The Paula's Choice line is hit and miss for me but I do like her Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid for some clogged pores in my t-zone. I'm also trying her Resist Weightless Advanced Toner, nice product, but I'm not completely convinced that I actually need a toner. For a retinol product, I just started using Peter Thomas Roth Retinol Fusion PM Night Serum - it's a watery serum, not greasy, hasn't caused any breakouts (can be purchased at QVC and Ulta). But, you can also try drugstore retinol products like ROC Retinol Correxion if you don't want to spend the money on the PTR product. For a Vitamin C serum, I'm presently using SkinActives 15% Vitamin C Serum and like it (ordered from the Skin Actives website). But, the ladies here can give recommendations for other brands, many like the Mad Hippie Vit. C serum and you may be able to find that at a local natural food store. For a face sunscreen, I like Exuviance Sheer Daily Protector Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50 PA++++, a tinted, non-greasy physical sunscreen (can be purchased at Ulta). I also just started using the Peter Thomas Roth CC Cream (SPF 30) and am amazed at how much I really like it.
For a moisturizer, I like Walgreens house brand glycolic face cream called Studio 35 Beauty Alpha Hydroxy Face Cream (it's 8% glycolic acid). This cream is a dupe for an Alpha Hydrox brand glycolic acid face cream. I use a tiny bit thinned with a few drops of water, not greasy, doesn't cause breakouts, gently exfoliates the dead skin cells. As we get older, it takes longer and longer for skin to naturally go through the exfoliation cycle and we need to help it along, otherwise our skin can look a little dull. When we are young, it takes 3-4 weeks but as we age, it can take 6-8 weeks...that's why older skin needs a little gentle exfoliation help.
CeraVe also has some nice products and I use their PM face lotion on my neck and chest (it's full of good ceramides).
Are we tired of “winning” yet?
