Nail Polish?

Is there a way to tell the opaque -ness of a nail color just by looking at the bottle? I bought OPI I Don't Give A Rotterdam, it's a real pretty color but it took 3 coats on a couple of nails and I tried to put thicker coats on the second time. I don't know if I just don't put a thick enough coat on or what. Are the creams more opaque?
