Most sets of lipsticks, blushes, liners, etc. offered usually have at least one or two that I cannot wear.

I notice that they usually include warm and cool tones, so warmeror darker shades are not flattering on me.

I'd rather have a choice of shades.

I agree - if I'm wanting just lipsticks, I don't need eye liners or brows to go with. What I would really need to go with a good lip is a good lip liner. That for me would be a good kit.

Re: NOT FOND OF BEAUTY SETS

[ Edited ]

I am particular about sets. This year I will purchase from Seohora, the Laniege Lip Mask Set for gifts and stocking stuffers. Waiting to see Ulta's full assortment of gift sets.  Make-up sets that have items I cannot use are easily distributed to nieces or are donated to my local woman's group.

@PINKdogWOOD  If asking about lip liners, I only have two. One is the shade of my lips, so it isn't visible and one a bit darker that I use when filling in lips to darken a light lip shade.

When you find the perfect shade of liner, it's "life changing" or at least makeup changing.

True....and why I rarely buy sets.

Truth my friend @Shanus for sure!  When I worked of course I never left the house without a lip color on. I find though when it's a tube of lipstick i most definitely need a liner to go with due to bleeding in my creases.  I'd need one for each color of lipstick to match, I had LOTS!

Then i found a crayon-like lipstick by Revlon if I recall that was perfect, no liner needed ever. Color in one end of the stick with a clear stay put of gloss (not shiny either) to go over for staying power. These are or were my go-to.

Well as we all know regardless of being a working woman or retired now, pandemic came upon us and we all stopped because of mask-wearing. It's rare now that I even put on a lipstick of some color. I do really like to color my lips just to complete my look if and when I do full face.

@PINKdogWOOD   I'm way too fair to ever be without color on my lips...even if lip balm and a neutral pink lip pencil filled in.

I definitely agree with you on not being a fan of the sets, especially when warm and cool shades are included.  I feel the same about eyeshadow palettes - the colors in the 8, 15 or more choices look so pretty and it's easy to be sucked in by them but, in reality, you probably are only going to use a fraction of the colors.  They don't store easily unless you have a designated makeup cabinet (I don't!) and it just seems like such a waste....in my opinion!

@AnnieBelle   I agree about shadow palettes, too. I've started looking more for 4-5 pan palettes that are usually already curated to blend with each other and smaller... No guess work.
