Such a frustrating trip to my ULTA yesterday. I was just looking for 1 item...my NARS concealer...no help on the floor & 1 girl at the register. I asked her for directions & she lazily pointed off in the general direction where she thought it would be.

After no luck, returned to her for additional directions & asked her to help me find it. I was told to look for someone "on the floor". There's never enough sales people on Sunday. Disgusted, I went to Sephora. No help there, either, but at least I knew exactly where NARS is located.

Are you frustrated w/ lack of help in stores? They wonder why we're shopping online?

Same thing happened to me at Ulta and I took it as part of the "invisibility" that comes with being a "certain age".  I didn't actively seek help but was very obviously lost.  The salesgirl on the floor seemed anxious to help everyone around me (they were younger and also didn't ask for help) until I finally had to specifically go to her and ask.  I wonder if they think that by the time we reach our age, we know what we want and we don't need their help? Either that or they think they're more likely to make a "killing" with the younger set because they're more easily duped into parting with their money.

No complaints here tbh. All the Ulta's and Sephora's near me are very helpful and seem to be more over-staffed than under-staffed for the times I am there.

I have run into the same problem at my Ulta store, time after time.  Sephora is located at an unhandy location (in the middle of a large mall), making it hard to just "run in" and get something.  Therefore, I signed up with Sephora and for $10/year I get free shipping when I buy onlne.

In the store generally I only need help at the register.  I am a wanderer when shopping, so I will find what I am looking for without assistance from an associate.

@Texasmouse. I never have felt invisible...besides just because we're in our 60's doesn't mean we don't have $ to spend in the store.

While at the mall (had to go for Sephora), noticed there were few sales people at Nordstrom, the floors and dressing rooms not cleared out at Belk's and Macy's a disaster as well.

I refuse to walk in circles looking for someone to check me out. If B&M stores fail...this is one big reason!!

Very helpful at the Sephoras and Ultas by me. I do find that sometimes the help does not have a clue about makeup for the mature woman.

@Janey2. I pretty much know what I'm looking for, just need directions.

I'm finding MUA in dept. stores and Sephora, etc. very heavily made up in the last few years (YouTube induced contouring, dark smokey eyes). Would never ask for advice from someone who can't see their own makeup is like a cartoon.

I don't shop nearly as much as I used to, but I have never felt invisible or not been asked if I would like help finding something.

It seems like every store has someone greet you as you enter & then at least one person always asks if you need any help.

I've given up expecting assistance.

Anywhere.

What assistance to you get online?
