Re: My hair is so dry -- ugh -- can someone recommend a deep conditioning product?

[ Edited ]

I use a mask made by Macadamia Professional. It leaves my hair feeling and looking so soft and shiny. I get it at Ulta. You can buy it in a tub but they also sell it in packets so you can try it once or twice before buying the larger size.

I use the below from Sally Beauty.

Sometimes it takes more than one conditioning to get your hair where you want it.  I apply it to my hair and then put on a clear shower cap and let it set for the recommended time.  (Under a hair dryer is better).  Love this stuff and it's inexpensive.

Just use coconut oil. Rub some in your hands to slightly melt it and then run your hands through your hair. You don't want it totally dripping, but it will look oily. Leave it on at least 30 minutes but a few hours is good too. Then wash it out. I can't speak for how it leaves your hair with shampoo, as I do use Wen.

I have dry, curly hair and will tell you what workds for me.  First, when my hair gets extra dry and frizzy it means I need a haircut.  It's like that now, and I need to start putting it up until I get to the salon.  Nothing works like a haircut when you haven't had one done for three months.

Second, I use Wen's rice restoratives and love the moisture and shine they add to my hair.  They also get rid of the frizz.  When I need a haircut and can't get there yet, I need to at least rinse my hair and add Wen as a leave-in every day or my hair looks bad.

The Body Shop years ago had a wonderful olive oil and henna conditioner that I loved.  It did somewhat color my dark brown hair, but just a bit.  I wonder what else they might have in terms of olive oil.  I put coconut oil on my hair, but it's important to rinse your hair by the next morning even if you only put a tiny bit.  The coconut oil literally attracts dust and dirt, which you can see in a magnifying mirror.  Ugh!

I use Infusium on my ends after I wash with Wen. I also use argon oil on the dry sections after I blow dry or before I style my hair. It really helps put back some moisture. if my hair is really dry then I'll rub a few drops of argon oil in my hands and just pull it thru those secions and run a comb thru it for day 2 or 3.

I have fine hair that I color every two months.

My hair definitely needs help!  I have always tried to take good care of my hair but lately, it's been looking very parched and more frizzy than usual.

I use good products and condition, and don't blow dry except for my bangs.  I do color it ,but try to do it only when absolutely necessary.

What I really need is a deep conditioning product.  Anyone have one for me?

Years and years ago I had one that you slathered on and sat with it on your head for at least 30 minutes.  This made such a difference!  I don't recall what it was and I'm sure they probably don't make it any more any way.

I have tried coconut oil but it doesn't seem to be doing the trick either.

Please help!!!

Several things are coming to mind .....   How long is your hair?    You may want to start with a hair cut, at least trimming the dry ends off.   I can't help but wonder what shampoo you use .... and how often you wash your hair.  Something you're using is just destroying the hair shaft.   If you had the same problem "years and years ago", IMO, you need change all the products you're using.

And yes, using Wen as your hair conditioner after shampooing might make a huge difference.

Re: My hair is so dry -- ugh -- can someone recommend a deep conditioning product?

Seems like the older I get the drier my hair gets. I guess from menopause. I have tried all kinds of oil treatments. They make my hair look nice but it's still dry. Using EPO oil (evening primrose oil) has helped get my scalp moisturized + the benefits my nails are getting from using it. The EPO seems to keep moisture in. I started adding a drop or 2 of argon oil to my conditioner which seems to help. My hair does not look all dry & frizzy from all the breakage. I still need to find a good deep conditioning treatment to use.

@AngelPuppy1   I noticed you wrote your hair "looks very parched and more frizzy than usual," but does your hair actually feel dry / parched?  Could your hair just be responding to more humidity?  For controlling my hair in humidity, I like Ouidad's Climate Control products.  If you aren't familar with Ouidad, it's a brand mainly for those who have curly or wavy hair, but can be used by any hair type.  I have wavy hair, but I have a friend who has straight hair, and likes to use some of Ouidad's products.  The products that help to control frizz are Climate Control Defrizzing Shampoo, Climate Control Defrizzing Conditioner, and Climate Control Heat and Humidity Gel.  You can find Ouidad at Sephora, Ulta, Beauty dot com, and other places (Ouidad has a website, too).  Ulta has a travel size kit with all three Climate Control products that makes it easier to try, without investing too much in products you're not sure will work for you.  It's $22 for the kit.  That's actually what I bought the first time I tried Ouidad because my hair is kind of "challenging," and I didn't want to spend a lot of money on products I wasn't sure would work for me or not.  (I don't like returning things).  Below is the travel kit (you can read the details on Ulta's website) :

I, also, like Davines products.  They have some really nice hair masks, if you would rather try a treatment.

And the Davines Oi line is wonderful.  One of the ingredients is Roucou oil, which helps with restructuring.  I use the shampoo and conditioner:

They also have an Oi Hair Milk and an Oi Oil product, but both of those products tend to make my hair too "soft."  (I like "silky," but not "soft" for my challenging hair type).   Davines also has many other great shampoos and conditioners, but I like their Oi line the best.  Davines is mainly sold at salons, but you can also find them online at a few places (and at their website).  HTH

Re: My hair is so dry -- ugh -- can someone recommend a deep conditioning product?

I have the same problem with dry hair and I have not had any luck with any deep conditioner so far, either pricey or cheap.  This morning I tried Shea Moistures Yucca and Plantain Anti breakage strengthening masque and I like how my hair turned out.  It is only the first time so I don't know how it is going to be, however, so far so good.  I also have the shampoo and leave in. Haven't tried the shampoo and like the leave in but not sure about the results just yet with it.

Good luck. Dry hair is the worst.
