All of a sudden I've developed some eczema on my face.  It gets red and scaley.    It is a result of stress.  Dermatologist prescribed hydrocortisone cream but I've read where that's not good for the face.  I've tried it all - high end mositurizers and drug store brands.  Any suggestions???

Hydrocortisone cream addresses the inflammation, which moisturizers do not do.  There should not be a problem using it on the face, if used as prescribed.

My suggestion would be to listen to your dermatologist and use the hydrocortisone she prescribed. If that doesn't work, then I'd go back for another consultation. Just a thought....do you use a Clarisonic? I had all kinds of problems a couple of years ago, and my dermatologist recommended I stop using mine for awhile. I did that and my face cleared up - and I never used the Clarisonic again (and yes, I used new brushes religiously). As for a moisturizer and cleanser, my dermatologist told me to use CeraVe and nothing else. Her advice was that simpler was better and it was true for me.

@betty423  Hydrocortisone cream will not hurt but rather heal the eczema.  Try an oil like Marula oil at night which is especially good for dry skin and at bedtime take a drop rub in your hands and pat on your face and say goodnight.  You will back to normal in no time.  Cat Very Happy

The thing that has helped me the most is taking 500 mg or more of fish oil each day.  (If I take less than 500 mg, it doesn't help much.)  Ask your doctor if that's okay to do.

Flaxseed oil is another option if you don't want to take fish oil.

I also just went through a bad patch of psoriasis/excema on my forehead. I used the hydrocortisone cream as prescribed, but I also used Aquafor baby ointment a few times a day on the area. After a month all is healed.

Have you tried ths baby eczema creams?. There is one made by child farm that is good ,also Vanicream soap and skin cream is good for eczema . There is a produc t by shea moisture called baby eczema soap with raw shea oil and argan oil,and chamomile oil. .They also have baby wash ,babyoil and a skin moisturizer which is just like shea butter, You have to scoop out and melt in your hand as it is a grainy type cream. Plain argan oil is also good

Your doctor would not have prescribed it if it were going to be harmful. Don't let websites alarm you. It's not good to use it long-term, but it's fine as a treatment for an outbreak.

@betty423 I have eczema around my scalp and I have always used the hydrocortisone cream. What I do now is, I use the cream for 2-3 days, then I switch to the Aveeno Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream. Within days, it is gone. I have had this problem for 10 years or more and this is what works for me. I have posted this before because I also get eczema in my ears and there was a blog for that problem. Yuck, I know! I follow this procedure with my ears also and within 2-3 days it is gone. I don't like using a lot of the rx. But, as some people have said, follow your doctor's orders.
