@Icegoddess   Don't sell yourself short. I've worked with many women over the decades and each has some quality that can be brought out to mkae a woman feel better about her beauty.

If nothing else, it's true that beauty is not only on the outside. Knowing you from the forums, you seem beautiful to me.

@Shanus Why thank you.  Obviously, I'm somewhat comfortable with the hand I was dealt.  But, it's why I like to punch it up with the makeup when I do wear it.  I have posted several pics of myself here, but I also know the best selfie camera angle for me. 

I just didn't want to come across like I felt superior to Miss Alaska.  I'm sure you've seen the What I think I look like vs What I look like Memes.  I just think Miss Alaska thought she looked more come hither than it came across in the picture.

Agree!  This is far more beautiful and natural and I bet most men would find far more attractive than inches of show make up on a woman.  I sure do.

The pageant takes place in October.  These images and voting are for the peoples choice and there is a cost to participate in voting.  The winner will be guaranteed a spot in the top 16.  

These ladies are in an age range that has knowledge of  what a pageant is, if they feel exploited they likely weigh that against their motivation for participation and decide if they are willing. 

The decision makers could have chosen a more natural look or maybe an ethereal bridal look but chose this instead for the peoples choice.  The photos are just one theme out of many to showcase their individual beauty, no doubt these ladies have many looks in their portfolios.

@San Antonio Gal I agree.  I wouldn't have recognized her.

I find it odd that beauty pagents are on the decline because they are sexist and demeaning to women, yet people flock to The Bachelor and all its incarnations and all those Housewives shows.

Women can talk about being empowered until the cows come home, but it's women who trade on looks for the most part. 

Until women stop equating their worth with how they look, and accepting how other women look, it won't change.

Perhaps the Miss America pageant is getting stagnant/tired and producers felt like it needed kicked up a notch.

Though I think the photos are beautifully done, there is no aspect of individuality in any of them. As my HS Junior says about all the kids in his school "take one, cut and paste and you have the entire school". His yearbook was exactly that; everyone (with a few exceptions) looked the same and we couldn't tell ANY of the girls or boys apart in the prom pictures!

It's a shame that what we are "sold" is a specific look that is created with fillers/injectibles and photoshop. Yes, the make-up application takes talent but you don't know where that ends and the fakeness begins.

What a shame.

This is the photo from the Miss West Virginia website... while I don't watch these type of shows.. this phot looks way different than the one in the link.
