Just tried to check out Mineral Madness Forums and get the message that the domain name expired a year ago. That tells me that something is fishy (error on the part of the host site, maybe), because I was just on there yesterday or the day before.

Anybody have any inside info from James or the moderators?

I know last year the same thing happened. I think James said he thought he had more time before it expired, maybe that's what is going on again. I'm sure there will be an explanation when it comes back up.

It says 2014, not 'last year'. If you put "Mineral Madness Gone" into the search bar here on the BE forum, you can read JamesC's response that sapphire mentioned.
