My very soon to be 75 year old face has become more and more of a wearing makeup challenge! Also, I have white hair and wear medium foundation. I really don't like using black eyeliner and mascara as it doesn't look good anymore. I prefer grey/charcoal eyeliner and for brows too. I still wear eyeshadows when I do full makeup. I just saw that burgandy and mauve mascaras may be better options; however, I'm not sure and wondering if either color may be a better and softer look? Anyone using them and what is your verdict? Opinions? 😌

I still use black mascara but I use black violet liner and heather shadow. The black violet liner isn't as harsh as black.

I still like black mascara, but I would think a brown would be a better color if you wanted to bring it down a notch. I don't often wear black eyeliner, but I wear all sorts of other colors. Nothing weird like orange or lime green or anything like that though.

I think mauve or burgundy or blue mascara on lashes looks very strange asit doesnt define the eye area and looks fantastical.
If you want to add color I say do with an eyeliner

I color my hair a very light soft brown with blonde highlights. My brows are still blonde. I have very fair cool skin and always use the lightest shade foundation. I use a tinted moisturiser for summer and mix a BE radiance with mineral veil. (the radiances are discontinued; I stocked up)
I stopped using black mascara years ago when I saw how harsh it looked in a photo. I use brown but some browns are almost black. For years it was a challenge to find a decent soft brown. I actually orderded from ''Just for Redheads.'
Brown's are back again. I'm looking for a soft one. Dior used to make the best one but I think the one I liked is gone (not sure.)
I do not use black liner. Sometimes I use a bronze because it makes my green eyes pop. I'm starting to experiment with the soft roll on ones that I got from Belle and/or the Kajal liners smudged. I've always used nude lipsticks unless it's a special occasion.
It's more work but to quote Dolly Parton: ''It takes a lot of money to look this cheap.
I never tried the mauves, etc. because when I was in my teens and babysitting blue mascara was all the rage a little boy asked me why my eyelashes were blue. He didn't like it. I've always listened to children. They see the world through clear eyes.

@Icegoddess I agree, I like brown for eyeliner, I think the more natural colors look better, I still do black mascara also but I sometimes soften things up with brown eyeliner.

I've never tried Mauve or Burgundy but I do like brown mascara for a softer look. I'm soon to be 71 and I still wear black mascara but not black eyeliner.

@Villagesbabe - My favorite mascara ever came out when I was in my early 20's. It was by Dior, in a bronze-gold color. I have hazel eyes and it looked so good. It came out for the summer, then was discontinued. At the time all of the department store Dior reps told me everyone else was asking for it to come back too. But it never did.
Fast forward 30 years or so and Dior made a light burgundy color. Of course I bought it. I loved it, but my days of wearing different colored mascara were over.
Now I wear a brown by Tarte. I've tried lots of black mascaras that I love, but I have blonde hair and light, warm coloring, and brown looks better. I get the travel sized Tubing mascara. I'm really happy with it. ![]()

@Villagesbabe I have bright burgundy red hair, blue gray eyes. I personally find black at my age, and with my coloring slightly harsh. I use brown mascara. Sisley Paris makes a great dark brown, as does Lancôme IDOLE, and Perricone has the most beautiful brown as well. I love the way Perricone goes on. IDOLE is the least expensive. All 3 great choices. I used to buy burgundy mascara some where. Forgot til you mentioned it. That is a fabulous choice for you, and I think I would like as well now to find one. ......
