Would you replace retinol, with matryxil?

I cover all my bases so I use both...sort of.

I use a serum that contains Matrixyl and other beneficial ingredients.  Right now I'm at a crossroads with it, though, and thinking of maybe eliminating it.  I've been a serum junkie for awhile now, but sometimes I wonder if I'm going overboard and if I can maintain my healthy complexion with fewer.

Not exactly Retinol, but I use Mad Hippie Vitamin A Serum.  It has a form of Vitamin A (Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate - aka HPR) that is ready to be received by the skin w/o the conversion steps that are required by Retinol.  There is no irritation with the Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate.

What Is Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate?

@JeanLouiseFinch, do you have to start slowly with this serum? I've had problems with other OTC retinols.

@suzyQ3- When I first started, I did every other night for about a week, to be on the safe side, and then nightly ever since,  Really, though, it probably wasn't necessary to skip nights since this form of Vitamin A is non-irritating.

I am one woman who could not use either.  My skin is on the sensitive side and the products would be too strong for my skin.  I would think if you could afford it, you would try laser.  Cat Wink

@Katcat1

Just to be clear, there is no irritation at all w/ Matrixyl.

@Harpa@Katcat1, having used it twice a day for probably three or more years, I can attest to the fact that it had no irritation. And I have moderately sensitive skin.

@Harpa  @suzyQ3   I have no idea what it is.  I have heard of retinol before but not the other.  I caved in a couple of months ago and purchased Peter Thomas Roth kit and I loved the facial wash but it did not like me and I had to return it.

@Katcat1, oh, okay. You had said that you couldn't use either one. Thanks for the clarification.

I watched a show-actually several shows -where Linda Marshall talked about the ingredients in her line. She said that if mor companies could get Matryxl then there would be as many creams with it as the flood on the market of retinol. It is very hard for a company to get Matryxl, it is patented. I also heard Manuela say the same thing. I thinkIsomers launched Matryxl in North America. Also Linda Marshall had matryxl first in the USA (elysee)

@donna71, yes, I have heard Linda Marshall say that and also that is a good substitute for those who can't use retinol.

As for the difficulty in getting Matrixyl, NCN Professional Skincare includes all three types of Matrixyl in their serum.

@suzyQ3  There's actually four kinds now.  The newest one was launched last year, I believe.  It's called Matrixyl Morphomics.  Isomers has it in their Isomers Matrixyl-4 Pur Serum and Elysee has it in their Fountain of Youth Wrinkle Resist treatment.  It's supposedly very expensive and hard to get.
