Makeup brush & sponge cleaner

I've been using ELF skin care for a while now and love it.  I placed an order and they sent me a free solid makeup brush and sponge cleaner.  I had surgery and didn't feel like trying it until today.  Holy Cow!  I use Bare Minerals original  foundation and sometimes their liquid tinted foundation.  I wet my brushes and stroked them on the solid cleaner and everything came off in a flash.  I rinsed them and the water ran clean really fast.  Brushes are soft.  The cleaner is black and contains charcoal.  I think it costs around $5.  What a great find.

@brandiwine

THANKS SO MUCH for the review!  I've tried a few e.l.f. products and liked them.  This one is coming home with me next time I go to the drugstore!

Re: Makeup brush & sponge cleaner

I have a solid Sephora brush cleaner and I really like it too.  Got old, stuck-on blush out of my blush brush when nothing else would.  It's white, so no charcoal.  The ELF one sounds great and a great price.

Re: Makeup brush & sponge cleaner

For maybe more than 30 years I've been using whatever I clean my face with, and often swiping the brush on a bar of soap to get more stains off them.

I've used this on many Trish McEvoy, Shu Umera, Mac, and other brushes that have lasted many years and none of them have been damaged.  I masage the cleaner in, hold them under warm running water, and press them into the sink where the water is running until the water runs clear--no issues.

Re: Makeup brush & sponge cleaner

I will have to try this, but I currently wash my brushes, yes, glide them over a travel size bar soap under running water.  Wow what comes out of those brushes weekly.  Hasn’t hurt my bare minerals or IT brushes.

Re: Makeup brush & sponge cleaner

I've moved along and have sworn off of the E.L.F. brand. I find it easy and convenient to use whatever soap, cleanser, shampoo, or dish detergent I have on hand to work well for deep cleaning my makeup brushes. In between, I use a waterless, instantly drying spray - spray, wipe on a paper towel or old washcloth, use again immediately.

Doesn't all the stuff from the brushes cling to the solid cleaner?
