Maybe she doesn't really buy all the products you write down.  How would you really know?

I say it's her make-up and anyone can wear what they want.  It's their face.  I see a lot of make-up looks I would never wear but I don't have too.

Hi @Lipstickdiva . It's puzzeling since she does bring her makeup bag with her. There are the shades/products I suggested. I always give high end and drugstore priced alternatives. I agree w/ others that she may just enjoy the pampering or attention and not getting it elsewhere.

Sounds like she likes the attention, has the money to pay for it, but sticks with what she knows.  She will be this way until she dies.

Old habits are hard to change. Change is hard. Someone once said to me that full/heavy makeup is like a mask we wear to hide behind. So she gets something from having all this on her face. She gets to look like someone she is not. You can't take this personally. It is not about you or your skills that she can't change. If you want, you could gently ask her what need the heavy makeup serves for her, but of course find a nice way to say it. Maybe why do you like this old look, or how do you feel in this look? And the other thing that occurred to me is maybe she is starting to have memory problems, she comes in and enjoys your session but simply can't remember how to switch gears at home. What you might do is ask her some gentle questions to find out what she really likes. You might kindly point out that she asks for a new look and then doesn't do it. So what does she really want. And people often say "oh, I like it" even if they don't, they don't want to hurt our feelings as the stylist or facial person or the massage therapist. You are obviously a kind person to care so much but something is going on with this lady and you can't fix or change her. But maybe you can talk to her and explore what is going on with her. Or maybe you decide she is just a odd customer and go with it.

EDIT: I wanted to say something else. Beauty might have been what she was trained in as a child and teenager. Beauty is her value in life, she may see herself as having no value if she doesn't look X or Y. My mother couldn't leave the house without a face of makeup and a wig that all took an hour to get done. I only wear blush and concealer and do my brows now. Foundation makes my skin feel weird and all chemically. I thought my mom was too insecure and I vowed as a teenager to never build my self esteem on my beauty or lack of it. So maybe this lady is like my mom, her beauty is her only self esteem or her value in life. I live in a town where many women do all kinds of things to look young, look beautiful.

Detachment isn't the absence of love but the ability to take care of yourself in the midst of someone else's choices.

@Tinkrbl44   Really?!?!?  Did I use her name? Do docs discuss cases without patients' names? You bet they do. Behind someone's back is if everyone knew who the client was by name.

This is much better than calling out hosts and models for size/makeup/hair AND using their names. That's hurtful.

@Shanus

LOL ... well, I certainly didn't expect you to agree with me, but I posted my comment late last night and when I woke up 6 people had already hearted my comment, so I wasn't the only one to see it this way.  Maybe it was just more attention-getting for you?

BTW ....   If doctors discuss patients' cases, it's usually done with other doctors, and not on message boards.  You really can't see the difference?

Hey, it's a public message board and people can post whatever they want, within the guidelines.  Obviously, not everyone will agree with me, but I just felt your talking the way you did about a paying client was unprofessional ... and tacky.  JMO

LOL ... it wouldn't be the first time someone made up a story about themselves and posted it here, that's for sure!

I wonder how many remember this one .........

"When someone posts a picture of another person and says it is a picture of themselves it is done with intention.  When they continue on for days telling about their look they are invested in deceiving you.  That is what happened with somebody posting a picture of the model Joan Kaminow.  There is no expiration on that knowledge, I know I won't forget unless something happens to my mind.  The person who commits that act has created their own problem.  "

I would be appalled if someone who treated me, say my hair stylist, was posting comments like this about me on social media, albeit anonymous.

ITA .... it's VERY unprofessional to do this, and  justifying it because it's anonymous so the client will never know ..... Huh?  So that is supposed to make it okay?  I think not.
