Last Sunday I saw a Chanel sales person at Nordstrom with my coloring and a red lip. I strolled over to see what she thought about my trying it. The first thing she did was remove my cream blush and said a neutral face and eye (a taupe shadow, tightline in dark brown and mascara) helped a red lip look less harsh.
To my shock the red she tried was not over the top, but it was in the application. She tapped it on with her finger so it added a brightness to my face w/o being over powering. She used a red/pink shade called Rose Turbulent in the Rouge Allure formula which is hydrating and long lasting.
I wasn't ready to plop down $58 unless I knew I would wear it more often than not. She scraped off a bit off from the tube and placed it in one of Nordie's little sample jars.
I remembered my Revlon Cherries in the Snow lipstick which was so similar and wore it for the week...tapping it on like she did...and so far, I've been wearing it every day with just my Merit stick foundation as concealer with minimal eye makeup when staying around here but I think wearing glasses with a colored frame (very dark eggplant which looks blackish) helps to balance the lip.
I'm really surprised I can carry it off and perfect for winter when I get more fair.

That is good advice to adjust other colors around the face when adding a more color saturated one.
Revlon Cherries in the Snow is such a classic I've worn the nail polish for years.
Have tried other colors in the last few years but do miss that exact color.

Glad you found a color and application technique that works for you!
I like red on other people but I can't seem to wear it. I do have some red lip glosses that don't look too bad. They are sheer and wear off quickly so they don't look too obvious.

Cherries in the Snow is iconic. My niece rocked it as a teenager in the 80's. I recently pitched an old tube during my lipstick purge and now you're tempting me to repurchase, @Shanus. 💄

@Shanus I LOVE a red lip. I wear a lot of Red lip balms, but if I love a red lipstick, I've been dotting the color on and spreading with a clear balm for years. I don't like anything too harsh on my lips. I'm so happy you found what you like. I have so many red lipsticks from several companies. Lately, my two favorites have been from Clinique. I always get compliments when I wear them. ENJOY and have fun.

@Shanus - That is so great that you found a shade you like. It's hard to find a red that works. Enjoy!

Same, I think I'll buy a bottle of the nail polish ![]()
Have never tried the lipstick.

The makeup counter visit must have been fun. I haven't done that in a thousand years!
I always loved a red lip, but, sadly, seem to have lost something and cannot wear it. Possibly age.
However, I'm tempted to retry Revlon's Cherries in the Snow (didn't know it was still around).
I'm not much on makeup, but I love a good red lip and lush lashes.

I recently bought a Doll 10 red lip color very similar in formula to Geller Jelly Balm called Power sold as a single on HSN.
