MAKEUP COLORS NEVER WHAT THEY CLAIM!

OK ...I should have learned my lesson long ago.....now I give up buying makeup, blush, lipcolor, eyeshadow and anything else....the colors are never the same as they appear on screen or online.  Everyone knows that it doesn't pay to return with the $6.95 fee on most of the orders.  I just got a set of 4 Tartlette shadow sticks - I thought that 2 of them were cooler taupe and a violet/brown mix which I could use  but they turned out to be very warm metallics - not good for my skin tone.  The other too are gold and bronze.  From now on, off to Ulta I go to pay full price- at least I'll have what I need.  I'm angry enough with QVC - I suspect that next they will have only high end cosmetic products and beauty gadgets and I'm keeping my money in my pocket.

It's hard to buy online makeup anywhere.  I just look for free returns.  QVC doesn't have that obviously.

Been wondering about ULTA...I have one near me, but never been.

Do they let you try colors free?

I heard they can be condescending to my age group. 50+

Is this true?  I don't know.

FWIW...I'm a cool color makeup wearer and have noticed warm tones dominate.

I've never noticed rude behavior at Sephora or Ulta from salespeople and I am 65. I would guess it's going to depend on the store tho and some of the stores might gear towards younger shoppers. Which IMO, is kind of silly as us older gals can have more disposable income to spend on pricey makeup and skincare.

I have been disappointed many times on how the color on screen is not even close to the color in person. I limit my online purchases for new to me items, to the less expensive brands/items...like ELF lip glosses...and shop in person for eyeshadow and foundations.

It's very hard to see colors accurately from afar (online on tv).  Sometimes even in person it's the lighting that can skew how you see the color.

What's funny is that unlike what others have mentioned, I've always found that most colors in eyeliner, eyeshadow, etc. tend to be more cool than I would like.  I wish they'd be warm Smiley Happy

I don't know how you feel about returning used makeup, but Sephora accepts returns and they pay for the shipping. I'm sure all of us buy our makeup and Skin Care in good faith but sometimes something just doesn't work. They have made it very easy to make a return. Just print the shipping label, put it in a box, and take it to your nearest Dollar Store.

I haven't had the best of luck in Ulta. It's been a long time since I've been in a Sephora or Ulta though. I've done all my shopping online since 2020. I did feel like I was being ignored when I used to shop at Ulta. Sephora was always very helpful.

Depending on your TVs color control settings, colors could look warmer or cooler than they really are. That can usually be adjusted .  My computer screen can be calibrated too for color intensity coolness or warm tones. Phone? My screen can be adjusted as well but I like the colors a bit more intense on my phone so I don't use it if there's any doubt.

Re: MAKEUP COLORS NEVER WHAT THEY CLAIM!

I have been burned a few times and learned my lesson..no more online purchase unless I know the color works for me.

My local ULTA will not give samples any longer so I rarely purchase anything 'new'...Sephora is not as convenient as far as going into the store.
