Re: Lisa Mason on FB todsy

They were most likely offered early retirement with benefits to make it worthwhile.  25 years at a job is a long time... probably time to retire.

It is just economics to want a younger job crew.. costs the company less to  keep them on as employees. It is just a fact of life. Some  people just  want to work forever... into their 70's and on. Just makes little sense. Life is short... smell the roses...

Lisa is not longer an employee... she should butt out of this  conversation.

I just read an article on the Q Talk post about this and it says that QVC is redistributing labor.  They are laying off 100 in PA but adding 160 jobs in CA.  Of course, that won't help the people in PA.

According to Philly Magazine, this is a reorganization for QVC.  They laid off 100 employees in January, 2016 and 147 in November, 2015.  Now they just laid off another 100 from West Chester.

The lay-offs in November were due to QVC outsourcing part of the company's finance, HR, IT and legal departments to Poland.  They are adding jobs to a new west coast distribution center that recently opened in California.

seriously becaue someone has worked at a co 25 years they should retire? They could have been 25 when they started

And people are working longer for many reasons some dont have the luxury "to smell the roses" at 50 or even into their 70's

What an out of touch dismissive atttiude

they should proably retire anyway? You know nothing about whether they should or not or even afford to and I doubt they are being offered retiremnet packages they can live on for 30+ yrs if they are far off from retirement age

I have always felt that, although it works out well for some, offering the aging workers early retirement is just a legal way to cover age discrimination. Every age offers something important to a company. Some people prefer and love working past 65.

@Kachina624 One thing we do know is that the way QVC senior leadership is running the company, they're directly responsible for any layoffs. Isn't it ironic that those that should be fired are making the decisions on who to fire.

@Zefra  Of course upper management is responsible for the lay-offs.  Their first responsibility is to their stockholders, however, and not to the employees or even the customers.  They must make decisions based on what is best for the company and its bottom line.  They're scrambling now as they haven't done so well in the recent past quarters.  They've got to do whatever is necessary to turn it around.  Why would you say management should be Fired?  Retail sales are down across the board....look at Macy's.

@Suziqzee  Unless Lisa Mason supervised these people, she was in no position to judge the quality of their work.  Just because she has an opinion doesn't make it true.

Why all the snarky and hateful remarks.  Usually if a company has a lazy, unproductive, dishonest employee it does not take 30 years to figure it out.  Companies want to get rid of the high salaries and other benefits these employees get.  It is always about money.

@chiclet   Please point out a hateful and snarky remark.  Just because YOU disagree with a statement doesn't make it snarky and hateful.
