Lipstick Testers at Department Stores

Why do they dip the lipstick in alcohol to clean them? Does alcohol kill Herpes Simplex Virus (cold sores)? Why don't they use something like Barbacide to dip the lipstick into and clean the brushes? Barbicide is the blue stuff they use in salons to soak combs until use.
