Less expensive version of Joan Rivers' Hair Product?

I'm looking for a less expensive version of the product Joan sells to cover thinning hair. I want to use it to cover my roots (hair not thin) because I'm not going to be able to get my tints as often due to illness. Any recs? Or is it better just to buy Joan's and get good results?
