I was reading an article that contained this list of lipsticks that contain lead. You would think that all companies would make them lead free by now! Was surprised to see Burts Bees on this list I dont use that color but I do use some of the Burts Bees lip products.

Well I dont know! But what I did find online is if you search lead in lipstick or other search options you will find a way more complete list that this list. One list had 400.

@CherryHugs Thanks for posting this. Four Burt's Bees lipsticks are on the extended list. 5 M.A.C lipsticks. None from Urban Decay. I wonder if they were tested????? Makes you think twice... or three times... before putting lipstick on.

This is one of the reasons I'm trying to find cleaner alternatives. You eat a little bit of your lip product each time you wear it, so...

There's an article at the FDA website:
fda dot gov/Cosmetics/ProductsIngredients/Products/ucm137224.htm
Exposure to lead from lipstick is mainly by swallowing, such as after a consumer licks her lips, so we used the same approach for cosmetic lip products that we use to estimate exposure to lead from food. We determined that exposure to 10 ppm lead from incidental ingestion of cosmetic lip products is very small and cannot be measured in routine blood testing. (snip)
Based on these factors, we concluded that up to 10 ppm lead in cosmetic lip products and externally applied cosmetics would not pose a health risk.

If those in California are not hysterical about it, it must be okay.

Lorac claims to have NO LEAD.

I still feel better about the brands that do not have lead. I dont want to be eating lead (licking lips, etc) no matter how little!!

This is the FDA list of 400.
However, these were tested in 2010. Did anyone find something recent?
