@monicakm   If this helps, you don't need a primer with most shadow sticks.

OK, thanks @Shanus

I see some women wearing eye shadow 

that isn't blended out.  They have a harsh/straight edge.

I don't care for that look but it's what I got with the shadow stick

and I wasn't able to sheer it out.  Like I said, I'll try again under 

better circumstances.

@monicakm - I've seen women put on a full face of makeup on the subway.  Once I even saw a young woman putting on her mascara standing up on the subway.  I was standing near her and told her that I admired her for doing so as I would have poked my eye out.  We both laughed.
