Good Morning all.
I have a question for us that are over the age of 55..
With all the skin care on the market today, cleansers, moisturizer's, serums, tools, etc etc, if what is available on the market today, were available say 20+ years ago, do you think that our skin would be better, a lot or a little?
Or do you think that we are all fighting that uphill battle to stay young?
I am just curious of how you all feel..

I definitely think that my skin would be so much better because back then skincare/beauty products were so limited and often were not good or good feeling on the skin and actually caused worse skin in some!! For me, it's not about fighting to look young but to just feel and look as good as I can. Wrinkles and aging happen to everyone but if I can hydrate my skin with great products and could have used some of the great technology in skincare that we have now, my skin definitely would be much better than it is now!

No, I don't think it would make any difference.
I think one's facial appearance is more a matter of genetics, lifestyle, smoking or non-smoking, and one's general health.
I use Triple Lanolin on my face and it does well....

no difference here except who knew all natural would cost so much

Part of me thinks the pricey skincare is kind of a racket. But because I don't want to look like a prune, I go for the basics. So I choose to opt for simple ingredients and routines. You can't beat Purity Made Simple and a basic moisturizer and eye cream.

When you stop & think about it...what's really new today? Gadgets, procedures and synthetic peptides....
People had different methods back then (including facelifts), but still did their cleansing, moisturizing & other caring for their skin.
What's different is marketing, not so much what you can put on your skin. Marketing may be just a little more convenient for us these days.
But I would like to think I would have found ways to maintain firm, smooth skin 20 or more years ago without some of the ready preparations I use today (and without going under the knife.)

Good question--I think my skin would have been better--for then--right now I'm 60 and am very fortunate to have really good skin with few lines or wrinkles due to good genetics I think. But I have some excellent skincare that has helped alot in the last 10 years. And also know more about what good nutrition and supplements can help too. In my teens, I was really lucky to have clear skin all the time, maybe a zit once in awhile but didn't go thru what alot of kids went thru. I used Bonne Belle 1006 ---remember that!! But the best thing I have bought is my Clarisonic Mia---such a huge difference it has made.

I've wondered that myself since I never used any type of "skin care" until almost age 40. Then, my mom gave me a bottle of Revlon Moondrops moisturizer and insisted I use it. Sometimes I did - mostly I didn't. I was well into my 50's before I even started caring about my complexion. Ooopsie. Would I have fewer large pores if I wouldn't have used bar soap? If I'd been more meticulous about cleansing and removing my makeup? Who knows?
I believe that how we age is mostly genetics and lifestyle with only about 1% being products we use. Having "healthy" skin (complexion and body) is key -- eating a healthy diet, staying slender, exercising, not smoking, getting enough sleep, etc etc, give a more youthful appearance. It's not just your face that ages you -- it's your whole body and your attitude.
I've found products I believe keep my skin healthy - and that includes the food I eat.

I think I would have had better skin.
I had extremely oily skin as a young person. Along with that came larger pores and a never-ending battle with blackheads. There weren't a lot of products other than anti-acne products for this type of skin. We didn't know about AHAs and BHAs nor were we educated very well that applying astringent-type products only made the problems worse.
Moisturizers were made for dry, aging skin. No one ever talked about moisture for oily skin. Sunscreens were also not of the quality and efficacy we have now.
I think it's a combination of better technology and better education now that helps people deal with their own unique skin issues.

I think all skin care is smoke and mirrors once it climbs to a certain price point. I have tried a lot of skin care lines but always go back to a basic line without a lot of ingredients....something for sensitive skin.
I stay out of the sun, wear sunscreen everyday and I like the way that I am aging. I eat very healthy and exercise daily. I feel good in my skin. I am not trying to look 35 anymore and really enjoy the wisdom I have achieved about life in general. Being over 60 is a blessing and having a good attitude is essential for me.
It's far more important than any anti-aging skin care.
